The Wii is going to be fun, don't get me wrong. And I have wanted the new Zelda since I saw the first announcement, plus the new Smash Bros is going to rock! But I really am not planning on getting one. The PS3 however, I am planning on getting...just not until May-ish. That way I will have time to play (out of school) and I will have the money (thank God for internships).
But for now I will go back to FFXII

None.
All of them are overpriced. Why get an Xbox and a subscription to Xbox Live when you can have a computer, which lasts longer and does other stuff beside play games? A PS3 is a fine piece of machinery but I don't want to pay $300 dollars for a Blu-Ray disc player I don't need, I don't have a $2,000 TV setup, most of the current games I don't like, and most of the hardware and software has been rushed to meet demand. Why would I want to pay $250 for a Gamecube with a nifty controller which will probably lose its appeal after a few hours?
And I hate the #1 reason people want a Wii: Zelda. Oh, look! Nintendo is so innovative it ported a Gamecube game to a next generation console and changed the B button to a flick of your wrist! Give me a break.
Maybe if I have some spare change in a couple of years I'll buy the system with the games that appeal to me most. The best game I've played this year, Resident Evil 4, was released over a year ago, so I'm in no hurry this time either.

I am going to get a PS2 very soon so that I can play Final Fantasy X and XII. I have decided that I really don't like playing video games anymore.
Games are just crazy these days. Gameplay hasn't gotten any better since 5 or 10 years ago. All that's better is graphics and sound. A lot of the improvement is also in realism. I mean, it's freaking crazy. Back in the day, you just had a bunch of bitmaps and moved them approriately on the screen. Now, you have to deal with particle physics. Back in the day, a few college kids could make a game in their basement. Now, it takes a team of probably 20 - 50 developers plus a team of 20-50 graphic artists, not to mention an entire orchestra (which I like though). Bullshit.

PS3 and X-Box 360 just feel like the same old stuff but with prettier pictures. The Wii and Nintendo are trying to accomplish something new and different (mini-game based games, party games, innovative control, etc. etc.). The Nintendo DS has been getting better and better since they turned this corner and I hope that innovative streak keeps going with the Wii.

You won't find a more awesome game this year than Gears of War (though Zelda, ironically for the Wii, will give it a run for its money).

There should be an option for "It's a moot point, because I spend almost all my time and money on films and film music nowadays." Yavar I would pick that option too. Today I just went in a store, stayed there for over 2 hours, and left with around 20 scores. Damn, it's hard being a full-blown addict. I didn't even look at the DVD or video game sections. Why would I look at those? I started to look at the DVD section for "isolated score" DVD's, but my cart was full. I actually put back ~ 10 scores before I headed to the counter. Didn't want to have a overdose at the cash register. Btw, I actually picked up a cd by Raff, one with his 3rd and 10th Symphonies. They had his 1st and 5th symphonies too. I later releaized that his 3rd Symphony was avaliable at the library, but oh well. So much music, so little time to listen to it all... -Carlton NP: Reb Itzik's Nign: Alan Bern PS: I picked up a video game score. Nate ever hear of Akumajo Dracura?

You use a cart to buy scores? It's one of thos mini-carts, which has more handroom. So you can hold onto your prospective scores while you browse through the selections like a madman. No, but it sounds good. ;D I'll tell you how it is after I listen to it. It was a cheap used cd ($4) so I thought I'd give it a try. The main headings and the first 9 track cues are in Japanese. After seachering, I see that it's from Castlevania. Ever play that? www.soundtrackcollector.com/catalog/soundtrackdetail.php?movieid=58497I just hope that he will leave Satan out of it. -CG

I don't like using carts. They make me feel like an adult. So I'm a senior citizen, huh? Why would someone trade in a rare cd? I only got because it was Nintendo and I couldn't read the Japanese stuff... It's like when you beat the game and then your screen gets invaded by all of these Japanese characters. It sounds very Nintendo-ish and very 1980's-ish. I don't recall playing the game, but your other nintendo cd sounds better. I'll still send a copy your way after I get around to making this stuff... V‚½‚Ȃ錈ˆÓ (track 3) sounds good. There was another Japanese cd there, but I passed on it. -CG

I later releaized that his 3rd Symphony was avaliable at the library, but oh well. So much music, so little time to listen to it all... Awwww....you make me so happy! But I should warn you...I think you got the Naxos (or is it Marco Polo) recording, all of which are pretty lame. If you like the CD, cool. But if not, let me send you a copy of other recordings to change your mind. I'm afraid they'll come off as boring. The full cycle to get is the one on Tudor, conducted by Stadlmair -- Amazon also has some great CDs of his two cello concertos and two violin concertos. I just bought the Tudor violin concertos CD today at Tower records for 40 percent off. I think the best recording of Raff's 5th Symphony is still the one conducted by Bernard Herrmann. It's an OOP Unicorn CD, and if you find it, BUY IT. But until then we'll have to hope for a reissue of the recording. Stadlmair will do until then I suppose. Oh, and I should also mention Werner Andreas Albert on the CPO label (the conductor and label who recorded the four volume Korngold Orchestral Works series). I think he did a full cycle but only a two disc set (good deal, too) of the four seasons symphonies (8-11) and a single CD with the symphony no. 7 are available so far. I like his recording of the 8th symphony even better than Stadlmair, and maybe 9th and 11th too. Yavar

Who cares? You said you were playing Resident Evil 4 lately and if you have the Gamecube version of that you know it is one of the best looking games of all time. Not only that, but it's fun all the way through. Survival horror at its best (at its best meaning: an in-game camera that works!). I recommend it to anyone, not just the ones who like saying "Dude, is that really coming out of his head?". But it does look amazing, I was sold the moment Leon rests beside a tree to take a better look at the village. To see the villager's blades flicker like that through the binoculars makes me all giddy inside (plus the fact that I know they all want to kill me and there's this a guy with a chainsaw and I don't know where he is 'cuz I'm gonna try to jump over that window, see where that gets me, and. . . arrrghhh!). I like that game. ;D You were right in spotting the resentful Gamecube owner in me. It's not that I don't think it's a cool thing, it's that this time I'm going to let it breathe for a while and see how all three systems grow compared to each other. I'm becoming a more careful consumer. I might even get a good deal for it in the future. Right now, I'm spending the coin on a new flatbed scanner (Canon 9900f, anyone think of a better deal out there? scanning 35mm and slide film is important to me), new toys for my sony cam, saving (again!) for a Vista-ready computer in march, and gifts for my mom. I have a lot saved up, but mom's more important to me right now. Annoying? Those bastards! It's a gamecubeoctahedron. My gripe also has to do with Miyamoto San (out of respect, but I'm still angry at him) and his description of how Twilight Princess (back when it was a cube exclusive) would be the last you'd see of the series' classic gameplay. Undoubtedly, he meant a Wii game would be redesigned and built upon the new wiimote. Instead we got the game and their efforts to introduce the controller into it. Not that I don't think the game's still going to be awesome, but it's a cheap tactic. Yeah, but besides the fishing game, the rest is played like it were any other controller. I'll wait for the next Zelda game, the real Wii Zelda, if the producer's decide to use the controller for something a dual shock can't do. Gamestop got everyone's feathers in a ruffle whith their review, but the guy does make good points taking into consideration this is a next generation console. I expect the Gamecube review to be much better, considering that system's limitations. If it isn't, then he's just an a (followed by) hole. See, I don't care much for Call of Duty 3. Based on the previews, the graphics are shockingly mundane (these were PS3 previews) and the gameplay is not one that interests me in an FPS. I'm far more interested in Joel Goldsmith's score though. Does anyone know anything in that regard? Sports games are not my thing either. It's too bad the lineup didn't get to see Metroid Prime 3 and Mario Galaxy. I want to see how those fare. Not if my luck as something to sayabout it.

Probably the Wii... even though that game where you use the Wii controller to conduct a symphony turned out to be just a tech demo. Damn.
I stopped by Target today to get one, but their 69 units are sold out. I tried Circuit City, and their 9 units were gone. I guess this system is a bit more popular than I expected. The line at Best Buy wrapped around the building, someone was telling me. So I guess I'll wait - but man, Zelda is really calling my name.

Target and Toys R Us received the most units for the most part. The local Toys R Us screwed up though. Apparently, they printed out too many tickets for those who waited in line. So some people will be coming back today to claim their ticket, only to be denied. Hopefully none of them waited overnight... I'll be very interested to see if this system lives up to it's potential for multiplayer party type games. Raymon and Monkeyball both have potential. And last, a web site of some guy playing with the Wii for a full week: www.xanga.com/yoshismadness
