Meant to mention I finished Red Dead Redemption the other day. What a fantastic game. John Marston's journey feels very personal, and seeing it through was quite emotional. The ending left and impact, and I'm glad Rockstar followed through.

The ending left and impact, and I'm glad Rockstar followed through. not the best like i thought but the ending is certainly the best and most emotional.and giving you people to care about is something i always wanted. ah and i love split/second velocity.addictive as hell, couldn´t stop until all 72 gold medals. but beating the dev times is pretty hard.

So there are two things I keep hearing concerning mines: Chile and Minecraft. I will continue this post following the latter subject, seeing as the entire internet is now diamonds! I mean, Minecraft. So, ok, I go the official website ( www.minecraft.net/ ) and find this: "What it is: Minecraft is a game about placing blocks while running from skeletons. Or something like that.. Here, watch this video of me testing rollercoasters in the game instead: [Shitty YouTube video] The game is a lot like that, but also has enemies and cave exploring and mining and farming and flowing water and dynamic lighting and a huge (huge) randomly generated world map. AND it has music by C418!" The guy thinks he's being cute and funny, a la Tim Schafer perhaps, or the guys that run the TF2 blog and updates, but to me he comes off as a complete douchebag. And to seal the package, he's already super rich, from something that's not even finished (it's two whole steps from being finished). So, what is Minecraft? I don't care, Notch. Reddit will lick your balls at anything you do, but I won't. That doesn't mean I will stop myself from watching videos of guys giving a tour of their weeks-in-the-making accomplishments only to burn them down to the ground by accident.

So I played through Enslaved. The writing between the two characters, as well as their voice acting, is very good. The story itself kind of goes in a disappointing direction, and the gameplay is circa 2003. The game is getting a lot of praise, perhaps because it kind of came out of nowhere and wasn't on anyone's radar and it surprised everyone with its characters. I'm pretty astounded that no one is taking it to task for being pretty mediocre in the gameplay department.
It's plagued with dated camera issues, pseudo platforming where if it's not a ledge you are supposed to climb, then you can't climb it. You also have to hit buttons to take a 1 foot step down from a ledge. It's pretty frustrating when you are trying to find some cover from a robot machine gunning you down.
The game also tries to contextualize gaming conventions, such as waypoints and your health bar by saying it's part of his "slave helmet." Or whatever. Of course they pick and choose, which makes it kind of pointless. They don't explain all the glowing orbs you have to collect in order to upgrade your skills. In fact, the glowing orbs are never even mentioned. Very weird.
I could go on and on about all the bad things, but I think you get my drift. It's a shame these good characters aren't in a good game.
I also picked up Castlevania, which is just about as generic as you can get. It borrows gameplay conventions from all sorts of games like God of War and Prince of Persia, and manages to make them boring and tedious. The story is laughably overwrought with over the top voice acting by Patrick Stewart and Robert Carlyle. The score is mostly orchestral (there are a few cues that are synth), but it is so melodramatic all the time that it becomes almost parody. So yeah, don't get Castlevania.

I know you guys are probably not as excited, but Sonic 4 is out! Yeah! Sonic! Real Sonic! And it's rated E for "Comic Mischief" (I am not kidding about that).
