Having played all three consoles I can only say that I think I made the right choice with the X360. For all its processing power, none of the PS3's current titles come even close to looking as good as the 360 version of Call of Duty 3 or the simply amazing Gears of War. Plus, its interface is as cluncky as the PSP's, there's no background-downloading and the High-Def image doesn't scale between 420p and 1080p.
I've played the Wii and it looks like shit. Bad, Gamecube-esque graphics, messy, imprecise controller, flimsy construction. The only thing this system has going for it is novelty and its relatively low price.

The only thing this system has going for it is novelty and its relatively low price. Well I've been playing the Wii all weekend and have had no problems with the controls. If fact I find them surprisingly fluid and precise. Perhaps you have just been playing the wrong games, or are too spastic Obviously the system is not about graphics, so I'm going to ignore your complaint, as if you were expecting them to compete with the 360 and PS3, which Nintendo is obviously not.

I wasn't really expecting 360-level graphics on the Wii at all, but at least something a bit better than a mere Gamecube with slightly fancier light and particle effects. I admit that so far I've only played ExciteTruck and Red Steel on it, but if those games are any indication, the texture-mapping alone is going to make this near unwatchable for me. Well, call me a snob if you want.
On Red Steel the graphics were sometimes so awful it was impossible to tell your enemies from the background. Also, on that game at least, the controls were terribly clumsy.
Tilting the Wiimote left and right to turn worked pretty well in ExciteTruck, but it's hardly an improvement over the traditional console controllers.
I'm not into party games, so until some really quality action games come out that make proper use of the controller I'm going to give this a miss.

If you don't like party games, then perhaps the Wii isn't a system for you. If you just want hardcore traditional gameplay, that's what the 360 and PS3 are for. Also, Red Steel got horrible reviews. Why'd you even bother?

Gears of War is really overrated, IMHO. The controls were odd to use, the camera was odd, the characters looked clunky (not that the graphics didn't make them look good, just that the actual character people looked too huge...if that makes any sense)...I really don't see what the hype is about. Plus the story kinda sucked, it hardly explained anything!

Aren't launch titles almost always a notch behind in graphics, gameplay, etc.? Maybe you need to give the Wii about a year. Normally this would be true (and in the case of the PS3 launch titles it certainly is), but in the case of the Wii I just don't think the technological capacity is there to make games look much better. If anything, the Wii is going to look and feel much more dated in a year than it is now. The controls on that game aren't supposed to be great, but I've heard many people say they thought the same thing and eventually the controls worked better once they got used to them. Maybe they were just Nintendo fanboys? Just curious, is there a delay with your hand motions to what you character does on screen when you're playing Red Steel? There isn't much of a delay, but the controlls are horribly imprecise. Swordfighting feels less like swordfighting than two cavemen beating each other with really heavy sticks. Of course, as Chris pointed out, the game is terrible anyway, and the only reason I bothered is because it's currently the only adult-themed action game for the Wii. As for fixing the control scheme, a Wii version of Far Cry: Vengeance is now out there, and IGN claims that it controls superbly, better than any other first person shooter. However, it looks like shit.

The graphics for the Wii get a noticeable boost if you use component cables vs the composite cables that come in the box. Of course, this doesn't fix it only playing in 480p. I only have a standard TV, so I'm not complaining right now, but I can see how someone used to the XBOX360 on Hi-def would be annoyed.
Also, I expect to see alot of bright, cartoony games on this system, because the games that go for realism aren't looking that good at all.

Eh, I don't care much about graphics (though I can appreciate good graphics). It's the gameplay that really counts.

November 07 comes GTA IV The only thing that matters... I'll just pretend I didn't read that. Everything about Grand Theft Auto is average at best. Maybe the absolutely terrible graphics with finally be fixed with the next generation technology though. -nate sidenote: Captain Ron is a good movie. I thought it was extremely funny. The grafics are ok, the framerate is unstable, and there are lots of stupid bugs. The NextGen Version should be able to get rid of this shit. But even the current gen versions and especially San Andreas were soo funny with the massive landscape, tons of hiiden stuff, the crazy missions and lots of crude humor, carchases more spectakular than in an michael bay (sorry i ment john frankenheimer) movie.Best games ever.Bully is also Grand Theft Mountainbike and as funny as the other games. GTA IV WILL RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've decided to get an Xbox 360 instead. I'm a Nintendo fanboy and all, but I've given this a lot of thought. Screw the Wii for now (I went to two Walmarts that were selling them today, but got there about a couple days late. People were lined up and stayed over night IN the stores, so I had no chance). The 360 has a huge library of excellent games already, while the Wii only has one good game right now: Zelda. I think I will give the Wii a year to shape up and get some games out (Metroid, Mario, etc.). I'm gonna buy some cheap games today online (like the collector's edition of Perfect Dark, Call of Duty 2, and Kameo. What can I say? I love developer Rare) and buy the system next week. I still haven't decided what expensive game to get. It's a choice between Gears of War (Collector's Edition) or Splinter Cell: Double Agent. Anyone play both of these? Probably a no-brainer to get Gears of War, but I'm a huge fan of Splinter Cell. Also, those of you that have the 360 how does the Xbox backwards compatability emulator work? I'm glad to see the list of incompatable Xbox games I don't own or plan on ever owning. -nate As a huge fan of Perfect Dark, I was hugely disappointed with Perfect Dark Zero. Absolutely awful. Don't get it. I have both Splinter Cell and Gears and Gears is by far the most fun. Plus, online multiplayer for it rocks. I'd also recommend Rainbow Six Vegas. As for backwards compatability, I thought I'd play old games, but I really don't. They just sit on the shelf.

Too late, I already bought the Collector's Edition of Perfect Dark (don't worry it wasn't that expensive). I remember hearing it was very disappointing and crappy, but then I looked it up at gamerankings and it got about 81% (a frickin' 9/10 from Gamespot!? They hardly ever give out high ratings). Kameo and Perfect Dark: Zero are the only Rare games I don't own and I've never been disappointed with any of their games (the first Perfect Dark was probably my favorite N64 game and maybe alltime favorite FPS). From the reviews it sounds like the game is too shiny, has strange ragdoll physics, short single-player, and dumb AI. That kinda stuff doesn't really bother me that much. In fact the ragdoll physics being messed up sounds fun. What didn't you like about it? Horrible level design and unresponsive controls. When you press hard left it takes a half a second to start turning. Idiotic. These people obviously never played halo, or perhaps the first Perfect Dark. It doesn't surprise me though; practically everyone who created the original Goldeneye and Perfect Dark have left Rare. The multiplayer maps are also very uninspired. You're missing out! It's like Rainbow Six 3 (arguably the best R6 game) with better graphics and a few new cool gameplay mechanics. I played a demo a while back. I will probably get Lost Planet when it comes out in Jan. Dead Rising is great, but it's not for everyone. I like RPGs quite a bit, and while not flawless, I enjoyed Oblivion. I believe I've logged over 130 hours playing it, and I haven't even started the expansion that just came out.

My brother wants to get highspeed next year, so I might be playing Xbox live in a few months. It defintely sucks to miss out on the free demos, etc. Although, I don't know if I could stand the childish behavior of some of the gamers if I played multiplayer. Is the stupid behavior out of control like with the original Xbox live? There are still annoying people online. I don't like playing with random people. However, if you get together and play with your friends, the experience is awesome. $70?! Where the heck are you looking? It's $40 at EBGames.com - www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=200123You'll be glad you have the component cables when you eventually spring for an HD TV, which makes a huge difference in my opinion. Actually I recommend the quick recharge kit (is that what you meant by conventional battery charger?). Since it charges 2 batteries at once, you'll never ever have to plug in the controller ever again. Thanks. I think next time it could use more music though.

I'm thinking of perhaps getting an Xbox (to not tempt myself into buying the latest video card since I usually prefer console games), but I've been wondering about Xbox Live. Are subscriptions region specific, or is it available to anyone with an internet connection?
