I'm thinking of perhaps getting an Xbox (to not tempt myself into buying the latest video card since I usually prefer console games), but I've been wondering about Xbox Live. Are subscriptions region specific, or is it available to anyone with an internet connection? Anyone with a HIGH SPEED internet connection. No dialup.

Muckle, I'd be up for an MMUK game gathering, but I don't think enough people on here play games, let alone have a 360. I could be wrong though. A few months ago I asked people to respond with their XBOX Live gamertag and only one person responded.

Anyone with a HIGH SPEED internet connection. No dialup. I'm on cable, not dial-up. While not super-fast, will 1MB down, 256kB up do (my ISP will probably double that next year anyway)? And do I have to set up my own router or does the 360 come with proprietary hardware I'll have to install several patches to in order to get it to work properly?

Yes, your high speed is faster than mine. I have DSL. I have a router, which then plugs into an airport express, which brodcasts a wireless connection for which the wireless adapter for the 360 recieves. I've had no problems, so I assume you will have no problems either if you hardwired it from whatever router you have.

Okay, I just found the game that will force me to buy an XBox360 at some time in the future. Mass Effect. masseffect.bioware.com/gallery/Those trailers look awesome. And the fact that is BioWare making the game makes me want it even more. I guess I better start saving up for a nice TV too.

Speaking of the 360 I got my collector's edition of Perfect Dark Zero in the mail today and I think it's excellent! I find it very similar to the old N64 Perfect Dark (the gameplay, style, humor, etc.) Um, yeah. I don't think so. The gameplay is nowhere near anything like the original perfect dark. We'll get to the controls in a minute, but the level design is so horrible that the designers put in big flashing arrows on the ground to tell you where to go. And humor? I assume you mean the laughably bad dialog and voice acting. You have got to be kidding me! The graphics are awful. It's nothing but previous generation graphics with higher textures, normal mapping to the most ridiculous level, and art design that is embarassing. Uh, no they don't. Perhaps the delay simply doesn't bother you, but I tried every single setting (toggling "fast turn" on and off, adjusting the sensitivity independtly with X and Y all the way, down, etc.) and the controls are still sloppy. There's no disputing the fact that if you push hard right on the analog, that the game takes a second to start turning. That is inexcusable. Maybe you should up your standards in what makes good FPS controls. Go play Halo, Halo 2. Man, even pop in Call of Duty 2 and take note at how much more responsive and precise the controls are. In my book, Rare is 1/3. The "1" going to Viva Pinata, which is actually excellent. Kameo is amusing at first until you realize it's the same generic formula we've been playing (and am now tired of) since Mario 64.

You can turn off the flashing arrows. I don't see how the level design is horrible. It is basically the same as every other FPS. You can only go in certain doors down certain hallways, etc., etc. I'm not sure that is helping your argument. Same as every other FPS? Well, considering about 90% of the FPSs on the market suck, that's a bad thing. Even if you do figure out where to go without the arrows, the levels are still boring and generic, and not nearly as memorable as the first one. I think this personifies exactly why Perfect Dark Zero is so bad. There has been literally no growth with the developers since the first Perfect Dark, which was released 6 1/2 years ago. Well I'm sad to hear that your standards for voice acting are so low. Yes the guns look great. But you know, woopdee do. I'm not talking about when you look slowly (in which it's fine) but if get into a room and need to immediately shoot a guy to the right, I'm going to hit hard right on the right analog stick and it better start turning immediately, even before my thumb is able to move it to the right. But, it doesn't. You hear the *click* of the analog stick hitting the plastic edge before the reticle even starts moving. If they were like most other console FPSs then I wouldn't have a problem. What are you talking about? Have you really played them? The controls are simply more fluid in the Halo games. It's not an opinion. It's simply fact. If you were here I could demonstrate it and prove it to you. Well then you'll love Banjo 3 I guess. When they revealed that they were making it, and then zoomed into the puzzle pieces etc. showing that it was going to be another boring collect-a-thon, then I said no thanks. I'll still reserve judgement until it is released, but I'm not looking forward to it.

I just bought my first-ever games console, a Wii, earlier in the week. I've been considering it for a while and thought I may as well go ahead and splurge.
So far, so good (as a Chinese elevator operative might say).

After not playing with my Wii (har) for several months, I recently picked it back up to play Super Paper Mario. I haven't finished it yet - but overall it's a good game that has a few too many annoyances for me to call it a great game.
I was addicted to the tennis game for awhile - I can't wait for them to release a proper one.

Ok, as many of you nerds know, the videogame called Bioshock was recently released for the Xbox, so now, after having seen a few previews for it, I must own one of these boxes. Please, tell me, comrades, where or when can I acquire an item that does not turn into flames by its own virtue?

Actually, I've been surfing Ebay throughout the day today trying to nab an XBox 360 Core system (I already have a hard drive...don't ask questions). Most of the time the refurbished ones have been going for about $225. If you've still got that Florida mailing address, that might be the ticket.
-Brendan, so far unsuccessful in Ebay sniping attempts today

Please, tell me, comrades, where or when can I acquire an item that does not turn into flames by its own virtue? I just completed Bioshock yesterday. THE best game on 360 thus far, and my favorite game since Shadow of the Colossus. It's brilliant. Get it immediately!
