100 a month to your high school? ?? What the hell? 100 a month to your high school? ?? What the hell? I've never really heard of a monthly donation to an old high school...I would like to add an inquiry to Carlton. Most odd. Well, it's a Catholic school. You can learn more about my former high school by going here: www.sbp.org/Catholic schools don't receive federal aid, so they depend on tuition and donations. It costs about 11 million per year to run the place. Last year, alumni donated over 2 mil. In terms of charitable giving, I don't think it's a bad place to give to. Many people have made donations, and in case you're wondering, there are many ways to give including securities, real estate, corporate matching gifts, bequests, and so forth. To me $100/mo didn't seem that bad, especially since they lost one of their major donors, MBNA, when they where taken over by Bank of America. Another famous donor/alum, Robert Brennan ... well, that's a long, interesting story. Anyway, here's a cool chart for the last school year which displays the costs, the amount of gifts recieved, and so forth. www.jorb.com/sb_ar_07/pdf/financial_statement.pdfNow, back to Taco bell. How can people eat that stuff? The last time I ate that was stuff was around 3 years ago when I was taken there by "old" friends. I felt awful afterwards, and I didn't even eat the lettuce. I do think it's cheaper to buy food rather than going the fast food route. Eating soup, crackers, and a banana (or orange) cost me about $2.00 a day for lunch. Going out for lunch, in terms of cost it's much more expensive. The same for breakfast. Now dinner is another story, particular if you are a gourmet chef like Jon.

Dude - there is a reason a third of your paycheck goes to the government. Why for fuck's sake do you volunteer to lose even more of your money to educate a bunch of kids who don't give a shit?

Dude - there is a reason a third of your paycheck goes to the government. Why for fuck's sake do you volunteer to lose even more of your money to educate a bunch of kids who don't give a shit? Because I'm a Christian. ;D It's like donating to a church... a church provides certain services and donations help them to continue these services. Oh, and I specify where I want my gift to go. It doesn't have to go to kids. As far as the government goes, they are not taking a third of my paycheck. My tax bracket is much lower than that. ;D Overall, I pay a small amount towards Social Security, 0.062%, (Jangles, don't tell me your opposed to Social Security), and the amount I pay towards Medicare is much lower, 0.0145%. Then my federal withholding tax is probably around 13%, and after factoring in rebates and refunds it's even lower than that. Statewise, overall the tax deductions don't even add up to $100/month, and this includes the withholding tax, unemployment insurance, disability insurance, and workforce dev/supp workforce funds deductions. -Carlton

I thought APplebes was a Dennys-type restaurant. They have "carside" service? Interesting.
Thats cool Carlton, wahtever floats your boat, I'd personally rather donate to a local symphony, if I had money to donate.

Taco Bell is just trash. On the rare occasions I eat there, I feel terrible afterwards.
Del Taco is much better if you must have fast food mexican. Their tortillas are far superior, for example. Still not great -- why not go to a real mexican restaurant? They aren't much more expensive.
There's a new chain I discovered in L.A. It's not widespread but it's really very good (and they have black beans available for substituting with pintos): Taco Time. They don't have the wide hours or many locations like Del Taco or disgusting Taco Bell, but they have good prices still and the quality of their ingredients is far superior.

Oh yeah, and El Pollo Loco is the worst ever. I ate at three different locations, three different times, and I felt sicker than Taco Bell made me feel every time. The last time (fourth time ever) I was forced to eat at El Pollo Loco I didn't get sick, but the food still wasn't very good and it cost a rediculous amount for what I got.

Man, my stomach must be made of iron. Every restaurant, fast-food place and takeaway place that has been mentioned in this thread I like, and I never EVER get sick from eating at any of them.

I'm with Jon on this one. Although I am not a fan of Taco Time or (up in Montana) Taco Johns, which people here love.
Down in CA last summer I also found Del Taco. It was very good. Still prefer the Bell though.

I'm amazed L.A. just now got that particular chain. I've grown up eating at Taco Time here in Wyoming since I was... in my single-digit years. Always been my favorite fast-food Mexican restaurant. You dare to diss the curly fry?! -Jockolantern

You grew up on English food. Indeed I did. And Italian food, and Chinese food, and Indian food, and Greek food, and so on. Your point?
