That ratio only makes sense because of the sheer overwhelming number of FPS titles that come out for the PC any given minute. You've gotta wade through the crap sometimes to get to the great stuff. Speaking of crap: Medal of Honor: Airborne. Why the fuck did I even bother this time? Haven't played it yet. What did they do? I guess when they made the first MP, they needed to carry over as many things as they could from the 2D iterations to really keep the spirit in 3D. Well, since all these games are tied together, they couldn't really abandon that, despite that it is rather silly in what is a much more serious vision of the Metroid universe.

Haven't played it yet. What did they do? Well, you know how they made a big deal about the paratrooping and the alternate paths and the nonlinearity? Horseshit. Paratrooping anywhere but the intended safe zone will get you killed pretty much immediately, usually by smacking against an invisible wall. The game is in fact more linear than COD3. Hit detection is terrible, for some reason. The missions are the most insufferable barrage of monotony I've seen since Rising Sun. It's garbage. Just garbage. I guess when they made the first MP, they needed to carry over as many things as they could from the 2D iterations to really keep the spirit in 3D. Well, since all these games are tied together, they couldn't really abandon that, despite that it is rather silly in what is a much more serious vision of the Metroid universe. Yeah, I still have a really hard time with that sort of nonsense, though. They should have done away with that when they first went 3D, IMHO.

That's kind of what I was thinking. At least it still uses pointless profanity.

Just curious, is anyone else having problems with the lighting from Bioshock? The blooming effects are going to make me go blind! When there is a light in the game it is so bright I can't even look at it. I've tried turning down the in-game brightness and the brightness on my tv, but it doesn't seem to help much. Or maybe I have some sort of vitamin deficiency that is causing me to be over sensitive to bright lights? ;D Otherwise, I'm really liking the game so far.

It must be your TV. I have had no such problems, nor has anyone else I know that's played it. Plus, all the videos I've seen online don't have a problem either.

When you first started, did you adjust the brightness so you could *barely* see the grey box? You may have made it too bright.

Yep. I actually have it set so I can't see the grey box at all. At first I thought it was my tv, but now I don't think so. The darks in the game are extremely dark while the lights are too bright. Obviously it was an artistic decision by the developers. If it were my tv the entire screen would be bright. You can see what I'm talking about here: www.gametrailers.com/player/21277.htmlLook at the floor where the "Big Daddy" is standing. Also notice the signs hanging from the ceiling, the side of the crate next to the "Big Daddy" and the light reflecting off the gun at the beginning of the clip. Too bright for me that I actually have to turn away if I look too long. Also the letters in the game menus are so bright that they are unreadable at the edges of the screen. I'm gonna mess around with my tv settings and the in-game settings a little more and hopefully fix it or else I don't think I can continue to play the game right now. Anyway. I don't know about anyone else, but the graphics are so good that I often times quit playing the game and just pan the camera around and study the environment (which I why I like the game, the environment it creates). When the game started in the water, after the plane crash, I thought the cutscene was still playing the game looks so pretty. -Nate

I don't know what GameTrailers did to that video, but that looks WAY too bright to me. It's not that blinding in my game.

That's exactly what I've been experiencing since I got the game last Sunday. That video is the developers playing the game so you'd think they would have the screen adjusted perfectly to show off their project they spent millions on and years to finish. I'll have to check out the bioshock forum to see if anyone is having the same problem.
EDIT: People are having trouble with brightness over at the cult of rapture forum, but not the same problems as me. Their problems seem to be PC only and the game messes up the brightness of their desktop after exiting the game. Nothing in game. Hmmmm.....

The video on gametrailers is a MUCH earlier build, on top of the fact that Gametrailers could have upped the brightness themselves. It's not representative of what the developers intended unless you get it from their official site.

Well, they do tell you in the game that will happen... Yes, but in the advertisements and press announcements for the game, they make a big fucking deal about the fact that now you have choice, that there is more open-endedness. Big fat fucking liars. Score is awsome, though.
