You definitely have a point there, Chris. I did not think the whole centered crosshair thing through, apparently. It's not a good solution.
However, rather than convince me of the greatness of MP3's controls, this instead makes me think that maybe the Wii controls are really just ill-suited for FPS games. Yes, aiming is indeed great in MP3, but turning is terrible. Come to think of it, the only thing this thing might work really great for is point-and-click adventure games. They need to make some of those for the Wii, dammit! Maybe a Phoenix Wright.
Ironically, my favorite gaming experience with the Wii so far has been Super Paper Mario, which uses the Wiimote just like a classic, non-motion-sensing controller.

Yes, aiming is indeed great in MP3, but turning is terrible. Did you put it in "Advanced" mode? The sensitivity (and thus turning) gets turned way up when you select that.

Hmmm... I'm pretty certain I did. Still feels very sluggish, at least compared to a mouse or joystick.
Anyway, that's just my personal feeling about it. You guys all seem to manage just fine, and that's great. The Wii just doesn't seem to be the right system for me, I guess. I got it shortly after launch and still can't get used to those damn motion controls.
Personally, I've come to really love the FragFX joystick and mouse controller Splitfish makes for the PS3. Now if only there was something to play with the damn thing besides Resistance and Warhawk, so far the only decent non-ports that damn system's got.

But speaking of Bioshock, Jens. That game is so fucking brilliantly awesome. I can't say Metroid Prime 3 is a poor man's Metroid, but I'll say Bioshock is a rich man's Metroid.

Rich man's Metroid is a strange way of putting it, IMHO. The guys at 1UP were saying similar stuff on their last show, and I just don't think it's true. Apart from the fact that both games are first person shooters, I see few similarities.
What is Bioshock really? A polished, steam-age remake of System Shock 2.
By that I mean it's fucking awesome. One of the greatest games I've ever, ever played.

Both present a large chunk of their story in a similar way: Scanning vs Audio Diaries.

While others were making that comparison, I guess I was too busy thinking...
psychic powers = Plasmids skills/upgrades = tonics audio logs = tapes. robots = Big Daddies zombies = Splicers Atlas = Frank Polito = Shodan
I don't know why, but Metroid 3 reminds me most of the original Halo. Though obviously a more interesting Halo.

Yes, there are obviously more direct comparisons to SS2, but who but a select few remember that game I guess I am comparing MP3 and Bioshock because they were released within a week of each other. And yes, MP3 seems to take A LOT from Halo this go 'round. The whole opening very much like the opening of Halo 1, and then there's a later instance involving being on a massive falling object that was so obviously taken from a similar situation in Halo 2.

All I was saying, I guess, is that in my opinion you guys were overhyping Metroid 3 a bit. Granted, it's a decent shooter and by far the best thing out on the Wii since Zelda, but can it hold a candle to a real PC FPS? I'd say not.
Incidentially, I have the same reaction to the Halo franchise. Yes, it was great when compared to other console shooters at the time, but as someone with a PC gaming background I just... it just didn't seem like anything special.
System Shock 2 is one of the most underrated games ever made, and the fact that BioShock comes oh so very close to it both in spirit and quality, while also being utterly stunning graphically (I have a big fat boner for the art deco look), makes me happier than I've been with any game in a very long, long time.

Wow, that was hilarious. I feel so much less insightful now, though.

Yeah that guy Yahtzee is funny. Be sure to watch his review on Fable and The Darkness. Hilarious stuff.

Well I don't think it is trying to be a "real PC FPS" in addition to the fact that 95% of PC FPSs are generic crap, which MP3 definitely is not. I also appreciated the fact that through certain portions of the game, there would be hours of gameplay without me firing at a single enemy, yet was still a lot of fun.

I guess I'm the last person to find out about this guy, as always. Thanks so much for making me aware of this.
I just watched his comparison of this gen's consoles. It made me laugh so hard, Coke came out of my nostrils.

Well I don't think it is trying to be a "real PC FPS" in addition to the fact that 95% of PC FPSs are generic crap, which MP3 definitely is not. That ratio only makes sense because of the sheer overwhelming number of FPS titles that come out for the PC any given minute. You've gotta wade through the crap sometimes to get to the great stuff. Speaking of crap: Medal of Honor: Airborne. Why the fuck did I even bother this time? I also appreciated the fact that through certain portions of the game, there would be hours of gameplay without me firing at a single enemy, yet was still a lot of fun. You do get to shoot a lot of doors though, which is weird. In fact, most of your interactions seem to be done by shooting, which would be funny to try in real life.
