Sigh, I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later.

M Night Shyamalan is to film audiences what chocolate is to dogs: The promise of something sweet and satisfying followed by slow, torturous death.

I used to like M. Night Shyamalan.
Andy Richter spoiled the ending for "The Sixth Sense", during an episode of Conan O'Brian once at the time, so that was ruined, but even then he film fell flat. I got the message and it was nice, but overall this was more of a TV movie story, and J.N.H.'s score fell flat too -- but that's not surprising since it was a replacement score.
"Unbreakable" I watched because I thought Shyamalan had talent. I love the film and it's very, very underrated score.
"Signs" is one of the best films I have ever seen, and catapolted J.N.H. to the top of interest for me, though he had been on the sideline already.
"The Village" was disappointing, even though it's got a good little score with violin solos by the cute Hilary Huhn. It was more of a cheaper theater or video rental than a 8 buck affair.
"The Lady In the Water" was unforgivably bad. I even left the film feeling insulted because I was a man. Bad, BAD film that offered up about as much as "The Village" did -- and that wasn't much.
After knowing how he does a film and tells a story from all these, I knew how to read into reviews of the film so I knew what the film really was. After reading a handful, I realized it was going to be another effort in the vein of the last two, and saved myself the time and money and simply skipped this.
Considering he said his next movie to be filmed is "Avatar: The Last Airbender", based on a cartoon as I recall, and that it's supposed to be a trilogy of films (like "Unbreakable" was...), looks like I won't be seeing an M. Night Shyamalan for about, oh ... until 2014 or so, when he'll be done with those and have time to film another movie. Hopefully this will give him enough time to stop and think about the crap he's been making as of late.

Love the Lady in the Water score, but never saw the film. I'm still curious about it, despite the reviews.
