It all needed a much longer time. As it was going in the series it was great. The movie obviously had to speed things up considerably. At least we got to see River kicking ass.

Same here...
I love Firefly (the series), but only like Serenity (the movie)...
BTW I thought David Newman's score works a lot better in the movie than on CD (which I got first and was a bit disappointed by...)

It makes more sense if one has seen the series, as I think it's kind of related to that. Still, something is not quite right with it. Maybe Whedon should've gotten a chance.

Everything happens too quick in the movie. Whedon also had to 'cheat' in some ways to make it fit. In the series, Simon had NO IDEA what they did to River (that's why they raided the hospital), yet in the movie the guy was explaining several aspects of River's experiments to Simon before he rescued her.
Book was wasted, Zoey and Wash's relationship was off, Kaylee had no development... the movie was far from perfect. Despite all that though, I enjoyed it quite a bit, and was glad Whedon was able to make it.

Yeah, so in the end I can only repeat the initial recommendation: grab the DVD set while it's cheap. Not that it isn't worth more money, but... you know what I mean.

I completely agree with you and even had more problems with the movie, but all that said, though the film doesn't live up to the series, it certainly beats the crap out of almost every other science fiction film out there! Seems like all good shows share the same fate.

Seems like all good shows share the same fate. Speaking of all those excellent shows that get cancelled early (while the lame shows keep going and going) -- the complete Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. is coming out! Wooooohoooo! tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=5391Yavar

At least that one had 26 episodes. Nice show though, definitely making our list.

Actually there were 26 episodes, plus the double-length pilot. The show's a helluvalotta fun, and the only western/sci-fi hybrid show before Firefly. Of course the emphasis is more on the former in this case. Yavar

Yeah, Bruce Campbell's the lead and it's a super fun show!

Just thought I'd bring this thread up again, as someone mentioned Firefly recently. It's on sale at Best Buy and Target this week for $19.99 (personally, I got it for $18.99 at Target a little over a month ago ). It's a really great show....I especially love Mal and Wash! I watched all the episodes and the commentaries in a period of 5 days. Also--Hook, if you're out there, wanted to let you know that I now have the complete Arrested Development series. Love it!

Did you watch the movie yet? No, I haven't been able to get to the movie yet. I hope to soon, though!
