Always remember, about 2000 years some rather smart and inspired people wrote a book about the son of God 1000 years they started killing all over the place in that book's name, and 2000 years later a large percentage of the population still based, sometimes ludicrous, decisions on it. Scary... What exactly are you trying to say? That the Bible can somehow be compared with films that inacurately portray historical events? That it is ludicrous (even scary?) for people today to base their decisions on the Bible? That the integrity of the book is demeaned by the fact that crusaders fought a rather unholy war claiming that Christianity was their reason behind it? Do you really believe there is nothing in the Bible, no teaching or principle, on which one could possibly base a correct decision? Or that there is anything in the Bible that somehow defends the crusaders? Or that the actions of a person or persons who claim to be following Jesus somehow represent true Christianity? I don't agree with the crusaders, but you can't say that their actions somehow make the Bible inefficacious in the present day. Judging a work by the actions of those who had nothing to do with its creation doesn't make sense. That's like saying that reading a certain piece of fiction makes one more likely to assassinate major political figures, or that listening to Helter Skelter will make me more likely to commit a string of murders. Isn't it possible that when the Bible was written it was written by men who had it right, and that in the ensuing centuries many twisted what it taught, or blatantly disregarded its teachings? Sorry, Armin, but I'm not going to let you flippantly deride a true book with impunity. The Bible means a lot to me, as does the religion that Christ taught. He taught us the best way to live. If you don't think so, perhaps you should read it. I take no personal offense at your remarks, but I will also not stand by for talk like that. Christopher

Is this a subject we really need to be discussing on this board? From experience I can tell you that this doesn't lead anywhere good.

Is this a subject we really need to be discussing on this board? No, much less in the movie category. But it would be a double standard to say that defense of the Bible is out, but casual slandery of it is okay, so long as it doesn't derail a thread... From experience I can tell you that this doesn't lead anywhere good. Agreed, I don't intend to take this any farther than I have. Christopher

I would agree with you if Armin actually had slandered the Bible - as far as I recall the only thing he stated was that it was written by "smart and inspired people" and later misinterpreted to justify various atrocities. That's not a criticism of the Bible at all, it's general commentary on how we as a people tend to put our own interpretations on things and distort the truth to justify ourselves.
Now, I personally could cite plenty of passages from the Bible, especially the Old Testament, that would have supported the comments you accuse Armin of making, but since Armin never made said comments, that's really beside the point here.
Please watch the flamebait, people.

Frankly, I blame George Bush. If he wasn't so dumb, we could have more high brow political satire about him.

I blame George H.W. Bush. "You're no Kennedy!" What kind of parenting is that. Think of the wounds.

Real Oliver Stone Quotes:
"Money was the sex of the 1980s."
"The Indians once told me that stones are the most revered and ancient of recording devices. And that perhaps I am here on this Earth to write of these mute histories - just another stone, an 'Oliver' stone."
"If I were George Bush, I would shoot myself. I think he lives in fear of drinking again. There's nothing more dangerous for America than an ex-alcoholic President who tells you to believe in Jesus."
"I love intelligent films that come at you fast. I don't have attention deficit disorder, my mind moves fast. There's a lot to deal with in my films. We had so many facts to go through, so the governing style is flash, cut, flash, repeat."
"If you can spend four hours killing Bill, Alexander deserves some space."
