That's ok, I pretty much got there right when it started and left right when it was over. The person I was with had to get back. Did you stay for the encore? You got the best of all three nights (they did a different first encore each night): Mikos Rozsa's Love Theme from El Cid! Dear God it was beautiful. They did Morricone and Waxman the next two nights. Now I like Peyton Place as much as the next guy, but it can't touch the Cid.
Yes I will be there. I'm participating in the "meet & greet." I think it starts at 5:30 or something. I have no idea what they are playing.
So you're participating and you don't even know if they're playing any of your music? Funny. Oh well, I suppose it's good to be there for the politics at least...here's hoping they play Swedish Fireballs! ;D Yavar

I didn't realize there was so many of us from CA....I'm in orange county this semester, I'll probably be transferring to Cal State Channel Islands up in camarillo in the spring. I spent the last two years in Thousand Oaks at Cal Lutheran. I've been on lots of vacations, but i've never lived outisde CA.
Anyway, I went to the first HSO concert at UCLA last summer with my mom, but thats mostly just because I won free tickets from filmmusicradio.com...there so expensive! And I spend too much on cd's. Ha.
I really like the Golden State Pops Orchestra though. I've gone to the last couple of those with my parents and my sis before she went away to san fran for college and it's fun. Very good prices on the tickets too.
If I recall correctly, in their upcoming november concert their having John Ottman and Damon Intrabartolo as guests and chatting with the audience before the concert. Should be fun stuff. If you're in the LA area, you should check it out!

But, all that said we can't do it because I don't trust Jangles or Brendan (because the way he drives) My driving is fast, efficient and precise. Accidents to date: zero. Your claims are unsubstantiated! ;D The first Filmtracks Gathering took place in Ohio at the Blossom Music Center just north of Akron. There were two more somewhat official gatherings in London, once for the Lord of the Rings symphony and meeting Howard Shore, and a second one a year later to attend Goldsmith's birthday concert. Since then, there have been only smaller get-togethers of two or three messageboard members. Perhaps we need an official definition of what makes a "Gathering"...5 people? 6? Does it have to involve a film music event? -Brendan

I think this "gathering" should involve a film music event... after all, for those of you Californians, such things are extremely common, but in most of the rest of the country, the chance to hear an orchestra perform film music doesn't come along too often.

Yeah, film music event -- shouldn't be hard to come up with one if the next Gathering is in L.A. Yavar

Perhaps we need an official definition of what makes a "Gathering"...5 people? 6? Does it have to involve a film music event? I'd say that 4 or under is a mini-gathering. It doesn't have to involve a film music event, but it would be nice if it did. (I haven't heard much live film music.) I think it becomes a real gathering if it occurs for more than 24 consecutive hours. If we do have a gathering next year (probably summer?) I think we should get as many people involved as possible and get the details worked out way ahead of time so people can save money and schedule their time correctly. This sounds like a great mission. This was kind of a feeler thread. It seems like there is some interest, but I'm not sure if it can translated into a definitive attendance yet. We could all save some money by buying fewer cd's. ;D Muckle, we aren't going to plan a gathering in San Fran or some other bangless buck place. There must be tons of Hotels and other services, in the LA area, so shopping around should produce some bang. There is also tons of stuff to do in CA. Want to see the Border debate. Want to see water (beaches) that aren't frozen. ;D Want to visit the USC film music library. I haven't been to CA since I was little kid, but it seemed like a fun, cool place when I was kid. My aunt and her family lives in CA so I could ask her about other thins to do. Tom also lives in San Diego, so I sure he could help out the potential "weekend" gathering planning. We won't sit in a concert hall all day. It'll only be a hour or two at max. Also, who says you can't talk. ;D The site location is the toughest part. I assume cities would make the best locations. LA, NYC, Minneapolis, Philly, or Atlanta. -Carlton

I think Atlanta makes the best location.

But there's nothing here, Jangles! Aside from the world of Coca-Cola and that great new aquarium. :-( Oh well... it would be convienient for me, but I tend to think Atlanta would be a bad idea.

I definitely won't be able to afford to go anywhere this summer. After graduation, I've got to buy a car, find a job, and start paying off loans--Yikes! It's too bad, as it sounds like this gathering is shaping up to be a big one.

LA? It's like on the other side of the WORLD!!! And I'm not even sure Canadians are allowed there I say New York. It's a good idea, 'cause.... eh.... I said it! Seriously, it'd be great to meet some (really, just some ) of the Super Duper Posters.

I think Canadains are allowed in the blue areas so those locations on the coast will be great for you. NY, CA... Other places might migh be so great for BOB. -CG -CG

Whatever this thing is that may or may not be planned, all I can say is that it sounds awesome.
After all, Montana has no film music events...hell we hardly have anything worth going to see. No real symphony orchestras or anything aside from community ones. Living in the boonies of the country has its downsides, I guess.
