Very funny, if a tad on the nose. I disagree with the point, though, that it was stupid of Microsoft to not put an HD player into the X-Box 360. Sony took a huge, huge hit on the PS3 for the sole sake of pushing Blu-Ray, and indeed it worked. In the long run, I think this will turn out to have been a worthy investment for them, despite their current losses. Microsoft, however, has never been that invested in HD-DVD, and driving up the production cost and thus the price of their system that way -- making it less competitive -- would have been really stupid. They're much more interested in high-def rentals via their download service, which is the same route Apple is now taking with Apple TV Take 2.

"To defeat the boss in Jaba's palace, Fortuna, stand next to him and swing your light saber repeatedly."How very helpful that advice is! "And remember to use 'heal' when your life meter runs low.""The Emperor is very unforgiving -- BUT SO ARE YOU!""Yoda and Anakin watch the festivities with a feeling of relief. The galaxy is at peace!"Classic!

...which is the same route Apple is now taking with Apple TV Take 2. I don't understand why it took Apple so long to take the approach that I thought was blatantly obvious from day 1. When Apple TV was announced and shown, I ranted.... "Why is there no HD content yet you have to have an HDTV to hook it up?! Why do I need to download in iTunes and then 'sync?' I should be able to just access the store on the device itself! STUPID!"

Apparently the device was originally targeted at the 000000.1% demographic of freaks like me, who use it to feed their music collection into their stereo via an optical cable. That's why I bought it, to be honest, and I doubt I'll be doing much renting or purchasing on it in the future to be honest.
Nonetheless, you are of course absolutely correct. 99.999999% of consumers will now find the thing infinitely more useful.

I think Microsoft is smart that they didn't put HD-DVD or Blu-Ray into the 360. The way they have it now is they can support either format externally, which they did with HD-DVD. Nothing is stopping Microsoft from making an external Blu-Ray player in the future. Joe

Precisely so. As I already stated, Microsoft obviously doesn't have nearly the stake in HD-DVD that Sony has in Blu-Ray -- they're not really in that business -- and there's little reason for X-Box 360 games to be on HD-DVD right now. The vast majority of games fits comfortably onto a DVD -- what with data compression and all -- so one might as well ask why Nintendo didn't put a high-def player into the Wii. It's pointless expense. And so what if there's a few future, cinematics-rich games that come on two discs every once in a while? We're pretty used to that sort of thing from the last console generation. And there's another good reason Microsoft hasn't implemented the HD-DVD player for gaming, and isn't ever going to: one doesn't split one's user base. They made that mistake with that useless "Core" system they put out, and they're not making it again. Nothing is stopping Microsoft from making an external Blu-Ray player in the future. I've heard rumours of that, actually. Nothing substantial, mind you, but it's hardly out of the realm of possibility.

Lame. The subtitles in the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray war vid were considerably more fitting, IMHO.
Absolutely LOVE Mozart Bond, though.

How many times do we have to see that damn "Downfall" clip with stupid subtitles of other dumb things? We've seen the 360 vs PS3 version, the HDDVD vs Blu-Ray one, and now an NFL one? God this clip was old a year ago!
