I watched this good movie last night, and I am talking about the 1958 version with Spencer Tracy not the remake which I have never seen thus no comment on it. This movie in my opinion is a perfect example of why you should watch a movie if you own the score. I doubt that many of you do own the score but some do likely because it achieved the Oscar for the best score for Tiomkin. I had always wondered why he won the award especially given the fact that "The Big Country" came out the same year. The Moross score is an example of one that you can 100% enjoy and not see the film. Having watched the movie last night I now understand why he was given the award for the Hemingway story. It is an important part of the film at least the emphasis that Sturges placed on it. Anyway, I can now appreciate the reason why he won. I still don't agree as I truly enjoy Big Country. Tom
