One word: stunning
Probably the best *dramatic* film I have seen in almost a year (the previous best being The Cooler... I don't count popcorn like Shrek 2 and The Incredibles, which were great but VERY different kinds of films).
Eastwood, Swank and Freeman for Acting Awards; Eastwood for Best Director; Paul Haggis for Best Screenplay. I cannot recommend this film highly enough.
Don't be put off by the fact that it's a "boxing movie" - it is much much more than that, and the ending is as emotionally shattering as it is dramatically satisfying. Eastwood's score was understated, but appropriate.
Brilliant stuff, ***** all the way.

Having been quite relunctant to see it, because I thought it was going to be a boxing movie (and I pretty much hate boxing... don't understand the concept, don't the violence of it). MDB is indeed not so much about boxing as it is about life, about achieving goals or not-achieving them, about victories and disappointments. Very, very good. Hilary Swank especially is amazing in this movie. Eastwood too. pete.

Probably the best *dramatic* film I have seen in almost a year. You haven't seen Sideways yet.

That's because it hasn't opened here yet, dumbass!
;D
I will see it (I like Paul Giamatti a lot, and have really enjoyed Payne's previous films) - but to be honest, I think ANY film will have difficulty topping the emotional power of MDB.

That's because it hasn't opened here yet, dumbass! Next you're going to tell me the dog ate it. Hehe, you and your crazy excuses, Jon! I think ANY film will have difficulty topping the emotional power of MDB. I liked Sideways quite a bit better, actually.
