MAN ON FIRE www.imdb.com/title/tt0328107/Really nice movie, with interesting plot that doesn’t get you tired but I was really annoyed by the direction at some times. The kind of it, is evident in all his previous films, especially SPY GAME and ENEMY OF THE STATE : It’s full of fast, constantly changing and flashing images that at the beginning seem quite interesting and stylish but as the film unrolls, it becomes tedious, frustrating and even upsetting at times! It’s clear that Tony Scott wanted to show-off his skills and possibly, his new cameras / equipment on this one but here, he went a bit over the top. Although don’t let this element ruin what’s a decent movie with good performances – especially by Denzel Washington and the lovable Dakota Fanning – great atmospheric music by Harry Gregson Williams and a very strong (emotionally) ending. * * * 1/2 (3 1/2)

I thought Man on Fire was a splendid film!
It was everything The Punisher should have been. An angry, driven avenger instead of a mopey guy that puts sticky, cold popsicles on people's backs.

I really enjoyed Men On Fire too. Perhaps a little too hyperactive at times, but it generally seemed to serve a point (despair, agression). I liked the way Scott handled the subtitles: incorporating them into the fabric of the film, rather than just boringly print them at the bottom of the screen. Still, behind all the visual tricks there was a pretty good and moving story at work. Denzel and the little girl made a moving screen couple.
I could have lived without Lisa Gerrard's vocals which really sounded too much like Gladiator this time, but otherwise I thouroughly enjoyed the film; and was moved by it a lot more than I had expected.

I saw Man on Fire over the weekend, and I agree that it's a pretty darn good movie. Marc Anthony's acting was much better than I expected, and Washington and Fanning were indeed an endearing duo. Of course, being the cry baby that I am, I shed more than a few tears MAN ON FIRE Really nice movie, with interesting plot that doesn’t get you tired but I was really annoyed by the direction at some times. I agree about the editing and camera effects. Rather dizzying at times.... ~Emily~
