Hi, I hope all is well.
We all love film scores, but there is another aspect that I would like to discuss - songs. Many films incorporate songs within their tapestry. Some better than others. So I would ask, what is your favorite song from a film, by what artist, and why?
Mine is "My Heart Will Go On" by James Horner and Will Jennings where we feel the passion of love, the sacrifice of Love, and the triumph of love, enduring and inextinguishable. But I do not speak of the Celine Dione version. Rather, I prefer the glorious operatic Italian rendering "Il Mio Cuore Va" by Sarah Brightman, which I believe raises Horner's song to the sublime.
So I would ask you, what is your favorite film score song and why?/font]

Mine is "My Heart Will Go On" by James Horner and Will Jennings where we feel the passion of love, the sacrifice of Love, and the triumph of love, enduring and inextinguishable. But I do not speak of the Celine Dione version. Rather, I prefer the glorious operatic Italian rendering "Il Mio Cuore Va" by Sarah Brightman, which I believe raises Horner's song to the sublime.
So I would ask you, what is your favorite film score song and why? The Brightman version of "My Heart will Go On" is my preferred version as well. She does a great job with it, and I'm not even that big of a fan of that song. She also does a lovely version of "La Califfa" that I believe is a tune Morricone wrote. Wonderful stuff. Along the same line is "Stand Alone" performed by Brightman for the Hisaishi score "A Cloud on the Slope". One of my favorites for sure. I also dig "The Dream Within" from "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" performed by Lara Fabian. The song works so well with the theme that Goldenthal created. I've also got to throw in with Berlioz and pick "Komm Susser Tod" from "The End of Evangelion". The cheerfully depressing lyrics, the music that swells so joyously, and the end of the world unfold in front of our eyes in the film - a masterstroke. Of all the songs in Shore's "Lord of the Rings" I love the haunting tune "The Passing of the Elves" the best. When I first got the extended edition of "Fellowship of the Ring" I played that song over and over. Those are the ones tied to the more orchestral scores, but I do have some favorites among Disney films, James Bond Films, and even a few Muppet Movies. Fun question!

I've been listening to some of Ennio Morricone scores recently and there are many of his scores that have some great songs (even when there is some stilted English pronounciations). Here's a few that come to mind:
The title songs from "¡Vamos a Matar, Compañeros!", "Da Uomo A Uomo" & "Il Ritorno di Ringo"
I also love "Hombres del Mar" from Guido De Angelis & Maurizio De Angelis's score "Il Corsaro Nero"
Oh, and "End Credits (The Bad Guy)" from "The Legend Trip" (Leigh Phillips)...and "Que Sople el Viento" from Alejandro Giacomán's score for "Hidalgo - La Historia Jamás Contada"...and most of John Barry's songs for the James Bond films.
To name but a few.
