As mentioned on the FtScoreboard, Marco Beltrami was just inked to score Seventh Son Breaking news, breaking heart. Was REALLY looking forward to Kantelinen's work for this. (I think this is the one where he's working with AR Rahman). The guy is so talented, wonderful gift for melodic writing. Hollywood's loss. And ours <s>

Beltrami's nice but very standard, most of the time.

So is Beltrami working with Rahman, or is Rahman off the film, too?

Not really a loss until you hear the results, right? It would be nice to get some variety, but it's not exactly like Beltrami is in some sort of hype machine. He's a talented composer, and he mostly adhere's to an orchestral aesthetic. He's currently one of the few guys that can deliver something interesting under the constraints of producers. Seventh Son appears to be a similar challenge. If people don't appreciate something like Beltrami's score to Knowing, you are probably crazy-- but I still like you.

Indeed, he's good; but lately he has as well delivered generally generic stuff, whereas Kantelinen is much more of a personalised-end result composer. Every new score he writes is different and very special, very committed to the film. There was possibly much more of a chance to get something big but also relatively fresh-sounding, with Kantelinen in such a big project, rather than Beltrami.

Great point. I didn't even know the film existed until yesterday, so it's all easy news for me. Hopefully Kantelinen will be doing something else to look forward to.

This got me upset; i talked with him a couple of times and he's a great guy. Anyone know what happened?

Although i fail to see how something largely posted on facebook has anything 'personal' about it, still i respect your point

These. I'm super excited for a new Mark McKenzie score. GAGARIN has already been released digitally, and I quite enjoyed it. "Glory" is a great piece of music, swelling with Russian pride! New Gordon scores are always welcome, and I'm more curious about JOBS and VIKINGS.
