Darn, I hope I haven't missed the wave (or any of the Cinemedia? cd promotions). Hey Jon, Jon, Jorge, Nate, it's good to see some signs of activity here, even if it is short-lived.... I really haven't posted anywhere (Facebook included). I've become an old man - set and hardened in my ways. The problem is that I really don't follow new scores or the newer composers. I was more interested in reading the new Conan the Barbarian score reviews than in seeing the movie itself or hearing the music... I must say that I have been watching a lot of "old movies" (film noirs, and foreign films) Which CDs do you have still to listen to? (I have MORE than 50. And still buy new ones just in case they´re sold out, not to pay a lot of money years later in case I´ll be interested. Which creates me this glorious feeling of "There must be a lot of good music in there still to listen to!! Great!". And also this not so glorious feeling of "Oh my God. How many craps do I have sealed on the shelves that I shouldn´t have purchased?" ;D ) This should be a new thread. My laptop is getting old. I broke the screen and the USB ports aren't working. So stuff is piling up. Mainly I just listen to what I already have on my Ipod.... -Carlton (NP: Tadlow's Conan the Barbarian re-recording)

I must say that I have been watching a lot of "old movies" (film noirs, and foreign films) Carlton!!! Glad to see you around! Almost a year!! I almost don´t use Facebook, and post seldom everywhere. Usually at Filmtracks, just to prove Craig that Burwell is not that bad (but to no avail). I´d like to say that I watch a lot of old films, but the TV broke down a week ago, so we don´t watch anything. Not that I miss it too much. Probably I´d like to see more DVDs and listen to the music is getting piled around, but that requires time, that I don´t own. Or more exactly, that I don´t know what I make of it. If you want music that I could have, just ask for it, please. I still buy CDs (if they are new scores, are from people like Doyle, Kent, and whoever it may seem interesting. Buying a lot of re-releases as well). Anything by Kent you want to hear? ;D (I mean, anything by Kent this F****** lap don´t add distortion to?) This should be a new thread. My laptop is getting old. I broke the screen and the USB ports aren't working. So stuff is piling up. Mainly I just listen to what I already have on my Ipod.... -Carlton (NP: Tadlow's Conan the Barbarian re-recording) I would have sweared you were listening to that one. The freaky me will buy Intrada´s new re-release of the Barbarian and Destroyer (never owned the last one, but have 3 copies of the former). Also will buy the new re-recording of Destroyer by Tadlow. Happy to see you around. Do it more often. NP: Jarre´s orchestral version of "Building the barn". Pretty good

I haven't stopped by for so long but I figured I would today for old times' sake. Sad to see that it might be closing. Between this, Filmtracks not being like the old days and FSM ceasing CD production I feel like I've lost the film score security blanket I used to have. It's good to see old friends here like Carlton and both Jons, and it's good to see Cliff Eidelman discussion (now when will somebody release a complete Christopher Columbus?). I've missed you guys. ...any chance of reviving this thread? Bump. To make this somewhat film music related I can't believe the clearance Movie Score Media scores at Screen Archives still aren't sold out at $1.95 each. There are some gems to be had in there. Are people totally of the mindset that they aren't willing to risk $2 on a score by an unknown composer?

Wow! Some people actually posted here after me. For so long I kept checking back to see if anyone else would reply to this thread.
So I hope Jon keeps the forum around longer...FilmTracks's forum seems pretty active compared to how dead it was when this forum was going strong but Clem keeps talking about shutting that one down and people might migrate here again. After all, the bulk of people at this forum in his heydey (like me) all originally came from FilmTracks, even Jon himself. Then at some point some of them went back years later, while others just disappeared from here (like me I guess). It'd be funny if the cycle continues and FilmTracks people come here again.

Hi guys, I am Auke and I just signed up for this forum, but I see that this forum maybe is another one that is being shut down. I really love original soundtracks and I am looking for other people to talk about film score. However, it seems that even though there are a lot of people interested in film music and today's film composers, there are no up-to-date websites about this niche. So, I created a website for film music fans where you can rate original soundtracks and talk to other people who are also interested in this and much more! I am always interested in what you guys think of it, so let me know! www.newfilmscores.com/

It's been so long I couldn't even remember my logon name Man it felt to me like this place was dying for a long, long time, and that I was the only one trying to keep it going and excite discussion, but I haven't been around for 4 1/2 years now. In that time, I've been forced to drop out of college, moved to Colorado, been struggling to get my life back on track, struggling to stay a musician, and I think I'm finally in a place where I can go back to college soon and get my degree. Something funny: I still do the emoticons in texting/whatever the way they're done on this board; it's good to know I've picked up some lasting habits thanks to this place. ;D Jon, I STILL don't understand how your hyperlink button's supposed to work... I had so many great memories posting here, and Filmtracks before that. I tried going back to Filmtracks since things were dead dead dead here, but I just didn't have the will to keep up with it. I haven't had to funds to spend on new cd's for a long time, plus my musical tastes have expanded quite a bit. If I buy music, it's usually used '60's and '70's vinyl, though most of my money goes to vintage camera and recording equipment these days. Film scores still outnumber everything else by a 2:1 margin in my cd collection, though. So I haven't really kept up with the film music world for a while. If I hear a new score, it's in the context of the movie itself these days. I don't even know of a good place in Colorado Springs to hunt for used soundtrack cd's. Too bad. The reissue market seems to be thriving mightily these days, in fact next paycheck (in five days) I have decided I'll get the complete scores of Alien and Conan the Barbarian; can't go wrong there! Maybe I'll put some money aside and save up for the La La Land Star Trek TOS box set and Varese's complete Spartacus. I've been into film music and posting on messageboards since late 2000/early 2001 (I think?) when I would have been about 15. If I was ever an ass to you, I apologize; please excuse the errors of my youth. I don't remember if I ever went public about it, but I did reform from being a Varese Sarabande hater. They do great work and I'm glad to have them around. I no longer need every score release to be 70+ minutes long; I think 30-45mins constitutes a full-length album, and is usually all I'll take the time to listen to in one stretch. I guess I don't know how to take Varese's buyout by Cutting Edge...maybe it'll be a good thing, maybe not. Indy2003, I think some of the last film scores I bought were out of your collection. Sorry I never got around to buying that second batch. Never had the money, and then things got complicated. The very most-recent film scores I bought were actually a dozen (mostly sealed) cassettes for 1.00 each at a Goodwill in Denver (end of last year). I got King Kong Lives, Die Hard 2, Cocoon: The Return, the Dirty Dozen, the Blue Lagoon, and others. I think my favorite though, would have co be Clan of the Cave Bear. I was never that big on synthesizer music as a younger man, especially when it comprised the entire score and not as a compliment to the orchestra, but that's changing. Alan Silvestri made a wonderful score here with nothing but a couple keyboards and I'm very happy indeed to have it as part of my collection. I give it a solid ****. I doubt many people will actually read this, but if you are at all curious about what I've been up to, then I wholeheartedly ask you to have a listen to my psychedelic folk album Lacrimosa, written, performed, recorded and produced solely by yours truly. It's not film music, but it's what I've been doing with my time. At the time of this writing it can be found at www.reverbnation.com/josephirvinjosephirvin.bandcamp.comJon Lord liked it...thanks, Jon, for supporting my musical efforts. Apologies if that was a bit long-winded, but I don't think I'll be back here to post ever again so you can consider this my official goodbye speech. I'm friends with some of you on facebook and comment occasionally on people's posts, so I'm still around to some degree, but don't plan on seeing me here or on any other film music message board. Jon, please don't take down the board. I agree that some things must be preserved, like Marc Shaiman posting. If anything, just lock it. It's been some great memories. Goodbye for now.

Good to see you're still around Joe. Starting to feel like reunion, this place. I'll have a nosey at your stuff later. "PT" <s>

It would be a shame to do it, but no-one really posts here any more. I think it's run it's course, sadly. With the website redesign I now have comment sections at the end of each review where everyone can interact, rendering this site a little redundant. Thoughts? DONT DO IT!!! ;D You know, we're all guilty of toddling off and leaving this place to die. I think we all migrated here from Filmtracks, and back again. But tell you what... it's great that this place's history is preserved. I think skipped to page 171 and started reading post from, like, 8 years ago. Seems like a life-time. It's made me all nostalgic and gooey. <s>

I was very happy to get Jon's email, particular in light of the (what seems like excessive but is just the cyclical) nonsense over at FSM. Some of you were part of my original circle of online film music friends.
I'm much more of a lurker on message boards these days just because I don't have time anymore to see as many movies or listen to as many scores. But I'm always reading to get a feel for what's out there and what's worth hearing. I'm looking forward to getting into that more with you guys!
