Well, in any given month I get about ten out-of-the-blue e-mails from strangers, usually asking me about unreleased scores, rejected score info, or even autographs of composers I have interviewed. In fact, I one guy attain an autograph just recently.
I answer all the e-mails (unless it's some person wanting an MP3) and help where I can, and all I get is a "thank you". For most people, that would be enough. For MOST people, that is...
Cut to today when I send an out-of-the-blue e-mail myself to someone, a lawyer named Brian Lee Corber, after a reply he made about knowing a certain compsoer I was hoping to interview and had previously failed in finding a way to reach. Not an uncommon thing for me -- half my interviews have been gained this way and all the strangers I asked were helpful.
First reply from him contained:
Second reply after explaing who I was in further and just hoping for helping hand -- like any normal person might do, got me:
Okay, so if you are a compoer out there in Hollywood and you are thinking about using the services of a lawyer, here's the guy to avoid. If you should already use his services and haven't seen his true colors -- now you have. Drop this guy.
I know some little known and well known composers read various film score board, so you all might be interested.
If you know him, tell the guy off.

An excerpt from his blog... Don't read if you don't want to go cross-eyed... "With all of the toys and toold tody, everyone can be a musician. No talent is necessary–in fact, having talent is a nusiance. All you have to do is let the progrm control, and just make it loud and nonsensical. Voila, music! It you write lyrics, they don’t have to rhyme or make sense. If you cn’t thuink of a subjedt remember tht in rap, booty and muurder are always well received. Oh, yeah, and sound angry. That’s the ticket. In the b.g., create a 1-2-3 music loop of bout 3-5 seconds and you’re done."musiclawyer.wordpress.com/

So far, that guy seems to have hit the nail on the head.

I thought Hunter S. Thompson would write a much more interesting character. Wait, that guy's for real? Didn't I see him in "Beltbuckle Shwardoso: The Legend of the Living Mummy from Kentucky"?

Oh, by the way, Ryan, in one of those brain farts of mine, I forgot the name to cinemusic.net (yeah, I know) and, instead of looking for it at your other profiles or the klaatumedia site, I googled your name and stumbled upon this chap: www.braxtanfilm.com/smf/index.php?topic=3913.msg53180For some reason, i-can't-believe-that-guy-graduated-from-anywhere lawyer's portrait pic here reminded me of him.

Oh, Ryan has some fun stories about that guy. If he's up to it, he may tell you. Did you find that guy's website where he calls Ryan "Hitler?" He misspells Ryan's last name of course.

LOL, yes, Hook, I make friends all over the internet. This particular "friend" wrote a score for an absolute shit, fan-made GHOSTBUSTERS movie. His music lifted from Elfman's CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY and THE FRIGHTENERS whole sale. I posted about it on the Elfman board (he claims that Danny Elfman weighs "heavily on my compositional style"). This guy took offence - and why not, he got caught ripping some (says me!) Elfman classics! His revenge? Calling me a "nazi" at the top of the splash page on his website, thinking it would shame me off the internet. Unintended effect: it made him look like the dipshit he is. He has recently revamped his website, but thanks to Google cache: 74.125.113.132/search?q=cache:i8gylrJ_EU0J:www.jonvandergriff.com/Music.htm+ryan+keaveney+is+a+nazi&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=caIf only he'd learned how to do a simple 303 redirect using an .htaccess file, you wouldn't get a 404 trying to access that page... Considering his real job is as a "software engineer" in cosmopolitan Kansas City, MO.
