I can't really remember the book at all, other than the fact that I know I read it when I was a kid. But, that said, I still wanted to see the film. So my fiance and I took a spontaneous date and went out to eat (Chinese, yum yum!) and went to see this. Sure, I really don't "get" the movie or what the whole journey and who/what the wild things represent. I don't. But still, I thought the movie was lovely. The boy who plays Max was absolutely great especially for such a young actor. I thought the music was pretty good (can't say I am a great fan of Karen O and The Kids though). And the Wild Things were amazing. I didn't not believe for one second that they weren't real. They were amazingly created.
Overall, I really enjoyed this film. While I guess a lot of it was over my head, it was still a lovely film. Great script, great acting, a lot of fun. Plus, just seeing the Wild Things is a great experience.

Too much tension, too little story.

Bizarre movie. The more I think about it, the more I realize it just wasn't good, outside of the stunning visuals.

I haven't seen the adaptation yet, but I recently read the book. Doesn't seem like it would lend itself to an angsty 2-hour movie.
