This is one of the best fanmade films I've seen:

The film is really well made. I realize that is the kind of comment that one makes to "be nice" to a mediocre work, but I mean it. I've seen many, many, many student films that can't compare to how well put together this short is. I know, the color "correcting" is suspicious in that its purpose seems to be to hide make-up imperfections (notice how it always dims out when there's an orc on-screen), but all it really does is make the scene look phony. I guess it's also meant to "fake" nighttime and inject horror into the movie (so they couldn't find a badass enough looking horse for the black rider, whatcha gonna do?). Every time a bit of action is shown it doesn't run very smoothly, either (though the fight scene is pretty good). And if you're going to include any of the lame parts of Peter Jackson's style, you might as well go for a helicopter pass or blurry, slow-mo shots, not an Arwen dream sequence. Come on, that was so lame in LotR they had to shoot it after production ended because audiences would've been "confused".
Anyway, not a must-see, but quite interesting. The acting is great. Not only do the players pull off the Tolkien-speak, they look at home with the costumes and sets. They seem very natural and comfortable with their roles. The production is very delicately made. If these guys intended the film to be a promo of sorts for their talents, I think they made the right film. Also, whoever did Gollum was fantastic. And may I add that I prefer how the Smeagol/Gollum dialogue was handled here? I mean, Gollum was in a freakin' bag the whole time, but it was better than the mirror editing in The Two Towers.
