If this one is actually starting to heat up as a good option for folks, let me be of help to any of the long-distance travelers. Kuhni, if it ends up being easier in any way to fly through Phoenix (you never know), we can road-trip it (it's only 6 hours from here). Hook, that goes for you too for that matter - U.S. Airways flies direct to Phoenix from San Jose International... I can't believe it's taken us 7 years to get a gathering planned in Los Angeles. (pfff...Ohio....what were we THINKING?! ) -Brendan

Seems fine to me. I'd give it a go. 6 hours listening to David Arnold music non-stop, what's not to love? ;D And I'm being serious.

I'll go as long as it's okay for someone in Alabama to come.

Wow, this is starting to heat up. I was trying to wait for a playlist, but you can count me in. I'll save up some vacation days.
So that makes 7 so far, Hook, Brendan, Christian, Jon, Joey (Jangles), Tj (depends on the date?), and myself.
Saturday seems like the best day, but the opening night concert would be cool to! I suppose the LA Philharmonic does group discounts, but maybe this depends on the concert...
Brendan, according to online searches, it seems like it will be ~ $40 cheaper for a direrct flight from NJ to Phoenix, but I haven't checked out the prices from nearby airports in NY/PA. Also, does anyone know if its wiser (ie, cheaper) to buy tickets now or to wait until the spring/summer?
Buying airline tickets is like [someone fill in the blank]. 30 to 40 miles sure makes a difference in the price. Using Orbitz, going on a roundtrip nondirect (1 stop) flight from White Plains NY to LAX costs around 250, whereas going on a nondirct flight from EWR or JFK costs around 390. Damn, I need to sleep, but I can't stop...
I've been searching from the airline sites. So many taxes and fees...
"7.5% U.S. government excise tax September 11th Security Fee of $2.50 per U.S. enplanement Airport passenger facility charges (PFCs) of up to $18 roundtrip U.S. government excise tax of $3.50 on each flight segment, defined as one takeoff and one landing."

Craig Lysy and Johnny (dts from Filmtracks) will also very likely be interested in this.

If I can get plan tickets a few months in advance, it looks like it will cost me only 300 for them. I have plenty of vacation time - that isn't a problem. Hopefully some people will be around more than one day? A hotel is also no problem, but it might be cheaper to share a room or get free lodging from someone close by.
And Carlton, as a general rule, plane tickets get a lot more expensive the longer you wait. It seems to me that the prices about double getting them a week ahead as compared to getting them a few months in advance. It cost me 400 dollars for round-trip tickets from Atlanta to Orlando when I bought them a week beforehand.

I'm pretty sure that any of the 3 would work for me. The LA Phil's site says we need 10 or more to get "group tickets"
Also, I'm sure there will be a guest room available in orange county if necessary, but hell, maybe i could get a hotel room in LA, my dad has so many of those damn "Star points" ! (Picking which of the 3 dates would be awesome in that regard!)
I also know someone who might be interested.

Airline tickets will fluctuate WILDLY between now and October. I would say go to Orbitz and put it on your "low fare watcher" list and have it send you an alert if it drops to a really ridiculously low level ($200 - $250) - then wait until maybe April or May to really start seriously shopping for the ticket. By then, the airline industry will be all but begging people to keep flying during this 'economic crisis' and fares should be quite reasonable.
....unless Israel attacks Iran at which point oil will hit $200/barrel and you better get your ticket as fast as you can!

Hopefully some people will be around more than one day? A hotel is also no problem, but it might be cheaper to share a room or get free lodging from someone close by. I'm definetly going for more than one day. I've been thinking about how long I should stay out there. Three days, four days, a week? I have an aunt who lives in LA (on Corralitas Drive). I'll have to get the exact address. I'm not sure how far it is from the Concert Hall, or from other tourist spots in LA. I haven't been to her house since I was a kid; I just remember that it's on top of a very steep hill. So, there should be "free" room there (and so forth) if anyone needs it. I just have to get in touch with my aunt. I also have a cousin who lives in the Pasenda area, but I'm not sure how far that is from LA. The Concert? USC? Rozsa's grave? A trip down to San Diego to visit Tom? Hanging out with Jon and Ami? Yeah, Jangles, I'd say I will be out west for at least three days. Thanks for the advice. I was thinking that spring might be the best time, but you never know. Gas Prices could sky-rocket.... -CG

This is fabulous news, Jon. One reason more to attend this...thing. I am most delighted!
Anybody against inviting Tex, Zack Behrendt and Jens as well?
