This was probably the best movie (not to mention the most quotable) I saw of 2008 (sorry to you Dark Knight fans). I kind of felt like it was a British Tarantino movie. Every scene seems to have memorable dialog, even though the filming location (which was in Bruges) sets it apart from other comedies. I also used to think Collin Farrel was some pretty boy who couldn't act, but after seeing movies like this and Tigerland, I definitely retract that opinion. To me, the discussion about midget wars makes the movie even if someone didn't enjoy anything else...
I am glad to see it make the Top 250 of IMDB. Who else has seen it and what your thoughts?

While I don't think that In Bruges (or The Dark Knight, for that matter) is the best film of 2008, I thought it a very competently made, smart British gangster flick. Definitely underrated.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't In Bruges get a skimpy treatment in its own publicity run? Might catch it on video, that's for sure. Oh, and about this "best movie" or "favorite movie" retread. I may be in the minority here but I look more fondly back at the "movie moments" of the year than complete, all-bases-covered type of entertainment.
Brilliant films there may be, but it's always going to be the little details that win me over.

IMHO, Frost/Nixon was the finest film I've seen all year, hands down.
Enough fantastic "little details", Hook, to fill ten lesser films.

Now, the finest film I most certainly cannot tell, but the film that entertained me the most this year was Kung Fu Panda, actually.

In Bruges was great, despite the silly coincidence at the end.Dark Knight was my favorite, followed by Wall-E.Haven´t seen Tropic Thunder yet. And Red Cliff does not count yet.Ah by the way have fun with the 145min version. Only 135min shorter than intended, lesser characters will be cut out which means even the battles will loose alot of feathers.

I loved "In Bruges". One of my favorite films of the year, quite honestly. It walks a very, very fine line and somehow makes it work.
Back at ya later
