Majel passed away today. She was 76.
As much as Star Trek was Gene Roddenberry, there was also a lot of Majel off and on screen. She was literally the voice of Star Trek having done countless performances as the computer. Although she played other characters throughout Star Trek every episode she did as Lwaxana Troi was memorable.

She was even slated to do the voice of the computer in the upcoming Star Trek film. A sad loss. She and her husband will always be missed.

I think she may have actually recorded her voice before passing.

Lwaxana Troi was probably the best recurring guest character of that show as the chemistry between her and the polar opposite character of Picard was pitch-perfect.
As for the voice of the computer for the upcoming film, certainly over her decade or more of doing the computer voice for the various shows they have enough raw voice material to be able to construct whatever phrases/sentences they need, no?

Sad news indeed. I too thought she was a great character, i had no idea she was in the original series though.
