Wow. This movie. Wow. ;D edit fun fact: I looked up "Chicken George" on Wikipedia because I didn't get the Roots reference (sounds like I'm talking about a band when I say that), and the first result is "Chicken George is one of the funkiest DJs in the the World; located in Austin, TX and playing weekly shows at venues around town. www.djchickengeorge.com/" Bet you didn't know that. Be sure to donate to the Wikimedia Foundation.

I don't know if I've already endorsed it here, but Tropic Thunder was fucking amazing.

Best satire movie since Shaun of the Dead... not much competition but still. It's my favorite movie of the year outside of The Dark Knight.

I have a question about these kinds of films: why are the scores so great? Theodore Shapiro's score for Tropic Thunder is fantastic. The album sums itself up with one track titled "Cue Bill Conti". What is it about satirical scores that make them so enjoyable?

I think I endorsed the film at one point, too... but I also liked "Tropic Thunder" quite a bit. It could have used some tweaking in the casting department, but Downey was perfect, and Stiller has never been better as a director. This one came right on the heels of "Pineapple Express", which felt similar in some ways and was equally entertaining.
Back at ya later

Yeah, I remember making a comment about how comedies are starting to satire ultra violent movies. Tropic Thunder was great, as was Pineapple Express.
You can tell the composers are having fun writing this music, which is why I suspect the scores tend to be so enjoyable.

What's great about this one is that there's really no moral at the end that requires the movie because serious for the last half hour or so, which is typically the case in pretty much every comedy that comes out. It never stops being funny.

So I watched this movie on Netflix last night. What a pile of crap. I think I chuckled, maybe, five times. I really don't find Tom Cruise saying "fuck" a million times amusing. Jack Black was just annoying. I found the whole Simple Jack thing quite offensive. And I could barely understand a word Robert Downey Jr. said. Clearly, my sense of humor differs greatly from yours

Pineapple Express is ok. I liked it, I laughed a couple of times, liked all the cast, but it's not the laugh out loud, smart comedy I was promised. It lingers on and drags too much on silly (but unfunny) action/roadie cliches and that's really not my thing. It starts of brilliantly with secret government testing and I could definitely see the potential in these two guys being followed not by low-level dealers, but by high-end political officials and military officers. Instead, the movie chose to use that as the origin of the bad guys' storage unit and the subsequent ban of marihuana. Apparently, the film was originally conceived by Appatow's idea of a movie based on Brad Pitt's character in True Romance being chased by the bad guys. Awesome idea, but I'd rather see Brad Pitt in the title role and none of this "bonding with your pal" crap. So I watched this movie on Netflix last night. What a pile of crap. I think I chuckled, maybe, five times. I really don't find Tom Cruise saying "fuck" a million times amusing. Jack Black was just annoying. I found the whole Simple Jack thing quite offensive. And I could barely understand a word Robert Downey Jr. said. Clearly, my sense of humor differs greatly from yours I have no words... but I do have a couple of questions: Why do you think the Simple Jack story line was offensive? Really, you couldn't understand Downey Jr.? What kind of set did you watch it on? And please tell me you at least let yourself go when Jack Black makes his, uh, offer to Alpa Cino once all is revealed.

The trailers at the start were fucking awesome. The Simple Jack storyline I found neither funny nor offensive, but the dialog about going "full retard" was probably the funniest in the film.
Also, they played the "Apple Bottom Jeans" song, and that was hilarious.

and the fun doesn´ t stop after the credits. The "Rain of Madness" Docu is hilarious, the audio commentary by the cast is in-role, and some of the unused/extended/alternate scenes are funny as hell. The Movie is much much better than i thought
