I didn´t like it. Almost all of it.Sloppy Bourne-style editing ruins all of the action, of which most is only a rip-off from bourne., bad acting for most of the time, a fairly one-dimensional and cold script, the villian is bad joke, no threat at all, the showdown comes from nowhere and ends immediately, the worst bond song accompied by the by far worst credit sequence, also not clear what the plan of Quantum really is. The only thing i liked is the opera scene and the final scene. Some scenes are really bad (on characters death and the whole port scene including the boat chase) 2,5 of 5. Its The World is not enough all over again. If Casino Royale was Xmen 2, this is Xmen The Last Stand.Couple of good moments wasted in a rushed disaster. I guess you like it if you liked Indy 4.

Mark Kermode, currently my favorite film critic, agrees with Silliness.
I'll be able to make up my own mind in nine days...

Nine days? Oh, look, the American release is Nov 14. Weird. I'll be seeing it Friday. I skipped Casino Royale yesterday on TV thinking it wasn't necessary to enjoy Solace, but I've been seeing that you have to know what went on in CR to fully appreciate QoS. That bothers me because, to be honest, I never always did know what was going on in Casino Royale and that makes me feel like a doofus. At the end of the movie, when Bond shoots that guy and the score goes totally nuts for the Bond theme I was like "Yeah, you show... that guy! The hell with him! Whoever he is..."
Oh, well, I hope it downloads in time.

All I can say is Silliness is all wrong. I loved this movie, what's not to like? Oh, ok, so the villains' dialogue is out of this world stupid. You can almost end each of their sentences with "Mwahahaha!" and you wouldn't make a dent in the final product. Also, Bond forgets how to conduct himself like a normal person for the first 40 minutes or so, choosing instead to release himself in laborious stunt sequences where walking across the street would suffice. "Bond girl" is bland and you can almost feel her acting coach through the screen. And what's with Bond getting all mopy about Vesper? Look, we get it, your girlfriend died. Most people grieve. You don't have to kill half the Illuminati out of spite. Sheesh. And the deal with the title cards. Look, it's very patronizing. Like I don't know what Siena, Italy looks like. I heard the title song for the first time in the theater and I have to say it's not only fitting, but I actually liked it. It's chic and "emotive" and it carries with it one of the best title sequences in the series (though Daniel Craig looks like the unedited footage of when actors are placed in front of a green screen and told "here comes the monster! aahh!", but still better than the iPod commercial from before). Though Quantum of Solace (that's mentioned, what, once in the entire film, by the way?) does not have the strong thematic structure of its predecessor, Arnold went out of his way to write the most thrilling Bond music to date. Seriously, there's like 30 flavors of Bond here. I love how he still manages to come up with fresh ideas and keep the Bond theme at bay but subtly hinted at (which, in the credits, finally comes up as "Written by Monty Norman"). *some spoilers* The film is mostly Bond in revenge mode and is an action film first and foremost. It's true that, for the most part, it's hectic and frenetic, but it's impossible to resist the action. Bond manages to crash most every vehicle known to man on this film, so I guess that's something. Also, I'm glad I saw Casino Royale or else I wouldn't have cared so much for Bond's agenda. I loved the oiled MI6 agent, a nod to Goldfinger no doubt (well, it's the exact same shot only she's covered in black goo now) and the fact that Bond is given a heart, though this detracts from his suave cool, the Bond theme is missing for a reason, after all. I really don't like the stunt with the ropes, it's too much CG and Asian for my taste. And what's the deal with Bond single-handedly disarming every living being on the face of this Earth, but being incapable of beating up a guy that's built like me? WTF? On the upside, this is one of those rare films where the people who are supposed to speak Spanish can for real. None of that south Texas accent horse####. And, sadly, Arnold's ahead of JW in getting the region's music right. Oh, John, they don't have mariachis in Peru, you dolt! It's loads of fun. Go see it.

Look, production design in this film is gorgeous. A last fiery duel, chases in between horse races in Italy, and, my favorite, a grand opera scene (Tosca) edited to one of Bond's many outbursts. Why, why then do these movies have horrible photoshops on their posters? Look at Craig's face. What is wrong with these people? Pennies spent in the poster, but three crashed Aston Martins are a-ok? Really. It's sad.

That poster has to be fan made, Hook, it just HAS to be. "JAMES BOND daniel craig marc forster's Quantum of Solace" Whoever is responsible for that knows nothing of layout or typography. Also, "Digitally Processed" and "NOT RATED" - no way, man.

Finally saw it.
Quantum of Solace is what you get when you cross a Bourne movie with a less than mediocre, silly Roger Moore Bond flick. It really follows that tired old Bond plot formula to a tee: Exotic locale - set piece - clue - exotic locale - set piece - clue - exotic locale - set piece - clue... rinse and repeat until Bond has gathered enough clues to move on to single-handedly blowing up the villain's lair and beating the shit out of him.
It's not an awful movie by any means, but it does feel like a major step down from Casino Royale, which did such a good job of making Bond seem both relatable and vulnerable. In Quantum, Bond is basically invincible - I couldn't with both hands count the scenes where, in a halfway realistic movie, he wouldn't have had a chance of survival.

Quantum of Solace proves all those people wrong who thought prematurely "Bond is back and better than ever". For me, these new Bond films are no breakthrough for the franchise.

Casino Royale was a fantabulous reboot for the franchise. It's too bad they couldn't follow up on it successfully.
It's Licence to Kill syndrome.
