Also, where do you think that 440k is going to? It's going right back into the economy. Spending the Government's bailout money (and my eventual tax money) to go to a swanky resort that only rich people go to anyways is hardly going "right back into the economy." I can't believe you're even contesting the amount. "But it's only 440K compared to billions!" So fucking what. If they spent $10 of the bailout money on some Celene Dion CD because they were feeling "stressed" I'd still be pissed. And like Mike said, they have already started wasting the money, just days after the bailout. This is not going to be the last time they waste our money. Maybe it's the extra money that the resort needs so that it doesn't have to fire say 8 people (for example - don't ask where I got this number from) because of decreasing revenue. Resorts are no exception, swanky or not, to companies that hire and employ people and have to cutback staff when money is tight. I am assuming the Celine Dione comment was some sort of joke. If not, then I am convinced you are some sort of Communist. You could imagine billions of cases where money that was spent somewhere could be used somewhere else. So what? The entire government "wastes" so much money on government defense, if by "waste" you mean employs tens of thousands of people where I live (as one example). And those millions of dollars executives are getting paid (even after a bust). Guess what? They buy stuff from companies who employ people, who also buy stuff. Go figure! The only "real" wasted money is the money people aren't spending that they actually have (and don't need for retirement or whatever). Same thing for companies. Of course, when they spend it and don't have it, that also creates a lot of problems

2008 Bailout: 1) A majority of Americans are against it, but our "representatives" just ignored us and voted for it. The House website crashed from all the extra traffic when people wanted to e-mail their representative. I think Diane Fienstein had something like 91,000 e-mails/phone calls and around 85,000 of those were against the bailout (and that was in California!). 2) We just handed over hundreds of billions of dollars to an unelected official just a few days after he requested it. Who also happens to have his own environmentalist agenda and this just happens to be in the bill: SEC. 117. CARBON AUDIT OF THE TAX CODE. 13 (a) STUDY.—The Secretary of the Treasury shall 14 enter into an agreement with the National Academy of 15 Sciences to undertake a comprehensive review of the Inter- nal Revenue Code of 1986 to identify the types of and 17 specific tax provisions that have the largest effects on car- bon and other greenhouse gas emissions and to estimate 19 the magnitude of those effects. Not to mention this: “Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency.” 3) It's unconstitutional. 4) This bill that's supposed to save the entire world from certain annihilation is an flaming AMENDMENT!!! It's not even it's own bill. etc., etc. But, we're just supposed to take it when our bailout money is wasted? Ya know I should decide what to do with my money not some jackasses that shouldn't even be in business. I could've spent MY money on a resort or given MY money to a charity, etc. but the government thinks they can take it away and give it to the chosen ones whose jobs are favored over ours by the government. Or something like that. Meh.

Glad to see the bailout helped the stock market. It looks like it's going to crash anyways, so it's even a bigger waste of $700 billion than I thought.
Well, my representative voted against the bailout. I'm not too big a fan of Trent Franks, but he has my vote now.

Oh, noes! This is the roll call for the original house bill: clerk.house.gov/evs/2008/roll674.xmlSenate's bill: www.opencongress.org/roll_call/show/5093I wouldn't judge the effects of the actual bill (not the disgusting padding) based on what's happening now. That's not how it's supposed to work. Being optimistic, give it 6 months. Realistically, though, it may take up to two years to make a difference. The whole business of using federal money as a reward for its own execs is awful but I'm not surprised. It is my honest belief that most people running Wall Street and at top of these corporations are psychopaths, or bordering. edit: late
