I got a three volume set of his works on Naxos performed by Slatkin and the BBC Concert Orchestra. He liked his percussion for sure. One of the CD's has a cue called "The Typewriter Song." I wonder if this gave Dario any ideas? I've reviewed one of the CD's so far. sdtom.wordpress.com/2008/08/30/leroy-anderson1/Thomas

Speaking as someone who has performed "The Typewriter" in a couple of concerts (see photo below - yes, the green visor is a necessary component of performing on a typewriter), I can say that this CD would be a great listen to anyone who loves that classic orchestral 'pops' sound. At $7.99 in Amazon's download store (high quality and DRM-free), you can't go wrong here! -Brendan, occasional typewriter musician

Agree but he sure made his mark with the Boston Pops and as I said in the review his Blue Tango was a huge hit likely out selling every Fielding CD produced. Thomas

That is so cool, for some reason. "I'm placing your bets... solemnly." May I ask what the visor is for? And is that regular paper, or... concert paper? Lastly, as a caveman who dislikes digital downloads (unless they're free and illegal), do you recommend a concert album in particular?

Lastly, as a caveman who dislikes digital downloads (unless they're free and illegal), do you recommend a concert album in particular? The visor was a tradition started by Leroy Anderson and Boston Pops conductor Arthur Fiedler. Often, Leroy would come out to conduct his piece and Fiedler would run off stage to put on the green visor and an armband to look like a typist or old school accountant. See video below: The paper I used was actually about 5 sheets jammed in there together so that when the key hit it it gave a louder, snappier sound. If you're getting a physical CD, you would still probably be happy with that same album by Naxos. Volume II looks like a good cross-section of his fun stuff and his more meaty stuff. That would be the cheapest route. If you want the "real deal" with Leroy Conducting his own stuff, get the " Best of Leroy Anderson" album. -Brendan

Brendan, have you heard the Slatkin/BBC Concert set from Naxos? If you have I'm curious for your opinion of it. I think Slatkin has a pretty good feel for his music. They just released vol.4 this month. Thomas
