Let's hope it will be closer in tone to the original Ong Bak than The Protector. Shudder.
Still, I am optimistic!

I actually liked The Protector better than Ong-Bak. A crazy, crazy movie, to say the least. Never have I seen so many bones crushed over a man's love for his elephant.

Nothing is certain in life. Except there will be elephants in a Tony Jaa movie. Lots and lots of elephants.
It looks like Ong Bak II even has fight scenes with elephants!!!! Tony Jaa's family raised elephants when he was growing up so that is why he always puts them in his movies. Plus, I think elephants are thought of as gods in Thailand, but I could be wrong.
Anyway. I actually thought I liked Protector more at first because it was so darn crazy, but in the end I think I like the first Ong Bak more. It has more graceful fight scenes and the story is a little more fun (yet stupid like the Protector story). The Protector is Tony Jaa just going psycho killing everyone in sight. Totally humorless, but totally awesome. Jaa is definitely taking the brutal/humorless approach to his movies much like Bruce Lee. You'll get no Jackie Chan humor from him.
And after seeing that Ong Bak II promo reel I still can't believe Tony Jaa isn't playing the Prince of Persia in the upcoming videogame-based movie. Jake Gyllenhaal? Please. I can't even spell his name and he's an American.

Rated R Jungle Book.I love it. No kidding. I wonder if it will get an NC-17 rating for violence? Maybe they just won't rate it and release it straight to DVD in the western countries. I hear it's not coming out until August/September in Thailand so we may not even get to see it until next year! I can't wait that long. I'm going to go out on a limb here and crown this the best martial arts movie ever made. -Nate

According to many websites Tony Jaa has been missing for the last three months and no one knows where he is (allegedly). It sounds like he got stressed out and had to go away for awhile. Production on Ong Bak II has been halted during this time and the stunt guys haven't been paid. It's sounds like they don't have the money to finish the movie which is supposedly 80-90% completed. And according to the official unofficial Tony Jaa fan club forum Tony Jaa has quit movies all together. I don't know if any of this is true. I sure hope not. It would explain the almost two year production still not being in theatres yet.

I'm assuming he's lost his elephant and has gone looking for it. Just follow the trail of broken bodies, and you'll find Tony Jaa quickly enough...

Ha ha ha. ;D That's what I was thinking too. Has anyone tried checking the elephant pens?
But, seriously. This is distressing if true. He's better than Bruce Lee and better than Jackie Chan in everything except for unbelievable stunts, and he already has the cult following similar to Chuck Norris (ya know because of the silly plots of his movies). If he has indeed quit movies we will have lost potentially the best martial artist ever on screen after only two major movies.
It seems odd to walk off the set for three months on your most major movie ever and your first time as director. He's in his 30s so he's not an immature kid. I hope this is nothing serious.
It would be nice if someone from Hollywood would contribute the rest of the money to finish the film (I'm sure it wouldn't cost so much being it's filmed in Thailand and almost complete). Why not Steven Spielberg (whom Jaa loves) or the Weinsteins being they will probably release the movie here if it ever comes out. These people claim to be in movies because they love art and not just the money. Tony Jaa movies are totally different than anything out there right now. Just watch that promo reel. It's a work of art to me with Jaa's signature graceful moves.

Yeah, I read that after I posted in this thread that Jaa "came out of the woods" (most likely literally) to address the rumors, etc. by the Thai media. I also heard he lost his role in a major Thai movie as well as the rumors he took the money from the movie (Ong Bak II) for personal use (I'm guessing he came out of the woods to deny those rumors). I'm surprised they didn't finish Ong Bak II sooner being asians seem to make movies really quickly (like a month) and Jackie Chan is the only one famous for taking his time with movies (usually 1 year per movie). I also read he's tired of the rigid contract he has not allowing him time to work in American movies (I'm guessing that's why he wasn't in Indy 4), which he supposedly really wants to do. I think he disappeared for a while to protest his contract or something. This really blows. The promo reel may be all we ever see.

i think his protests will help.he has a large fangroup around the world, and everyone knows that right know he is propably the best martial artist in the world.as long as he is doing well and alive, there is a good chance for a glorious return.he should quit his thai contracts and go to america, but then he will be soon playing aside of rappers.he would be a perfect choice for the leading role of prince of persia, now we have jake gyllenhaal.
