Hey, I have a really low quality version of this score (128kbps) that has some flaws to go along with the low quality...and I own the commercial cd. That bass trombone on track 24 "End Credits"....oh man....holy crap that's the awesomest s*** ever. Anyways, I would like to trade, but I am guessing there is nothing I have that someone who has Alien Complete doesn't already have, so...
I think it has some DVD rip tracks...

Do you have a list of your CD's somewhere? I won't trade for any of your low-quality-compressed mp3 collection ( ), but you may have something on CD I could use that might prove mutually beneficial to both of us...IM it to me if you want to keep your list private... -Brendan

I sent you a PM. And actually, most of my mp3's are 320kbps, and unless you are either an audiophile or asshole, it holds no distinguishable difference between that and cd quality

I guess I'm an asshole/audiophile.
Many years ago, before I was aware of the extent of score releases - I had Napster. I downloaded the NBC News theme - long - John Williams. It is at 320 and I can hear the differences and problems.

Risked what? I didn't know it was on CD and at the time, Napster was still fresh and not in any trouble.

I agree with you in theory, however we don't live in a perfect world. First, some encoders are better than others - some encoders simply don't do a great job ripping mp3s. Second, just because your mp3 is 320 kbps, who is to say it wasn't ripped from a CDR that was itself converted from an mp3? I've received several CDRs that ended up being from mp3s, and the person I traded with either didn't know or didn't care to tell me. Finally, if the music quality is lacking, since you don't have the original to compare to, how do you know if it was a recording or encoding issue? So even if you are not an audiophile, but simply care to have undistorted music, trading mp3s off of the internet can be more trouble than it's worth. Why bother with all the extra effort to make sure you have a high quality rip when you can just go straight for a wav copy?

I am neither an audiophile nor an asshole... although outside opinions may vary. I would love to get a complete score to Alien 3 and would judge for myself it's merits... Some 128k rips are decent... If you aren't an audiophile, you take what you can get and upgrade if practical. I'd trade for something like that.

I'm also both an audiophile and an asshole, but under certain circumstances mp3's are quite acceptable. Few people would actually be able to find out and generally it's not like one gets mp3's of a score he/she wants to listen to many times. In that case it's always the best option to buy the CD. For an occasional listen though anything with good quality will do.

I agree with Armin (and Jangles). Some of the official old scores have bad sound quality anyway....

It very much depends on what they were recorded on, but then also which equipment was used as well as how it was stored. There are so many factors involved that sometimes it's quite amazing how much stuff actually survived with good quality.
