Why does the rating keep changing?

It's me messing around with it. I was trying to come up with a more fair distribution of stars vs posts - as you were the first to reach 1000 Armin I thought I would play around with it to make it reflrect your achievement Don't worry, I'll stop fiddling with it now, I promise

I really liked the look of the stars I had before. Oh well, it doesn't really matter.

Too many stars, Jon, too many stars.
A five star rating system was perfect; forum regulars would just max out after a while.
Stop fiddling all willy-nilly and give us our old stars back!
And "music programmer"? What the fuck bullshit kind of rating is that?

What is the deal with the Karma? It keeps changing also. Tom

The karma changes as people either exalt or smite you, Tom. I'll exalt you right now and that should bring your Karma to 0. As for the new system, we all know you changed it just so that Armin wasn't on the same level as you anymore, Jon I find myself unable to keep from counting everyone's stars now, but I have to do it with my mouse, one at a time, usually while squinting. I think I like it, though, 'cuz now I have 4! --Chris

Tom - the karma is a user rating system, which means people who like you, like what you just posted, think you are a nice guy, whatever will press the "exalt" button under your pic and so give you a plus point. If the people don't like you, don't like what you post, just don't like you, or don't have a life and nothing better to do, they'll "smite" you, meaning subtracting one point from the karma. I myself find this quite an unnecessary feature. If I wanted to be popular I'd certainly not hand around these boards all the time... no offense meant, guys... and ladies... Christopher - Jon clearly only wanted to reflect my achivement, nothing else would ever cross his mind. The fact that my stars looked way better than his could in no way have been a reason to make the change. In general I agree - there are way too many stars. It's not like it matters, and there is no way I am actually going to count. Jon, if you could change one thing please - what Jens already said. Calling people "music programmer" is an insult. One Hans Zimmer in the world is enough.

There seems to be no reason for the actions of the apparent "smite fairy" that is running through the board the last couple of days (someone even had the nerve to smite Jon a few months ago ;D ). I think it may be hurting the boards a little. People just don't want to post because they think everyone doesn't like them, but it just may be one person that gives you all the negative karma or one person that gives you all of the positive karma. Right. -nate

yeah, I know. Then again, what kind of Kindergarden would we be if everybody just stopped posting because somebody has to press smite over and over again...

OK, serious questions. Do you want me to take the karma off? And do you want me to change the stars system?

OK, serious questions. Do you want me to take the karma off? Yes. It serves no purpose. I don't even know what it means. I have 3 karma. So? What am I supposed to do about it? Was there a glitch in the computer system? Does anyone seriously think that if someone got to -50 karma or something that they would continue to post? It could be one person did all the damage or it may have been 50 people. Maybe it's juevenille to worry about such things, but honestly what is someone to think that has negative karma other than people don't like them? (even if that's not the case) Plus, the karma thing is kinda new to this board isn't it? The board didn't start out with it if I recall. It's not an institution yet. -nate

OK, serious questions. Do you want me to take the karma off? And do you want me to change the stars system? I'd vote for that. It serves no real purpose, as Armin correctly stated, with some people smiting or exalting repeatedly. As for the stars...when I accidentally deleted my account I fell back to one star, and since I am neither a Golden Age Knight nor a Score God, I don't work up much energy to increase that number too quickly.
