As I suggested in the emoticons thread, you should look for mods to enhance the board.
I set up a phpBB message board for three of my courses, and it was quite useful.
One mod I found quite handy is a button that copies the message in your clipbaord; this way, you can save your message as you go along, and avoid its getting lost should something happen.
I guess you can easily use it if you find the correct place to paste it in, since all message boards surely work the same way.
In case it can help you figure which file to modify and where,
it's in posting_body.tpl , in the tempates directory;
the first part comes after <!-- END privmsg_extensions --> , ie infact, right at the top,
and the second part comes after-- well, anything you can identify as being located beneath the editing window; the Post / Preview / Reset row might be a good place.
Here's the code, now.
- Part 1 - (beginning of the script)
<SCRIPT language="JavaScript">
<!--
function highlightmetasearch() {
document.post.message.select(); document.post.message.focus();
}
function copymetasearch() {
highlightmetasearch();
textRange = document.post.message.createTextRange();
textRange.execCommand("RemoveFormat");
textRange.execCommand("Copy");
alert("This post has been copied to your clipboard.\nIf this post is lost when you submit it you can easily repost it.\nAlways use this feature before posting! - \nwww.able2know.com");
}
// -->
</SCRIPT>
- Part 2 - (Button)
<tr><td colspan="9" align="right">
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
<!--
if ((navigator.appName=="Microsoft Internet Explorer")&&(parseInt(navigator.appVersion)>=4)) {
document.write('<INPUT type="button" class="button" value="COPY TO CLIPBOARD" onClick="copymetasearch();">');
} else {
document.write('<INPUT type="button" class="button" value="HIGHLIGHT TEXT" onClick="highlightmetasearch();">');
}
// -->
</script>
</td></tr>
It goes without saying I always backup my files before trying such stunts.
