Are the just different releases, or re-recordings?

I really like Bruce Broughton's Toccatta for Mallet percussion and two harps. My percussion instructor performed this last spring. Unfortuantely I haven't seen a recording anywhere.

Have you asked your percussion profs? I'm not sure how it is at your school, but at Ohio State they record damn near everything, which comes in really handy for the student composers. Do you think your instructor might have a recording of the performance? I'd be extremely interested

They have a concert recording archive online (for students), but thus far it only seems to have stuff from last fall. I know that they record everything, but it hasn't seem to have been uploaded....if it ever does, i'll post here.

It seems the Herrmann symphony referenced in some of these comments is long out of print. Bummer.

Yeah. Here's the one I have (sadly Koch rarely does reprintings but there is a copy for sale from a Marketplace seller): For a second, I thought you were talking about this one. It just disappeared from my cart and now it's available there for $50. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000001SGX/ref=ord_cart_shr/104-0054515-1355178?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=5174Well, at least the other (better) version is still there. Speaking of other film composers and thier classical works, I really can't get into Corigliano's Pied Piper Fantasy or his 1st Symphony. -CG

No Carlton, that CD just has one track (movement) from the Symphony, but it *is* the same recording.
I like parts of Corigliano's Symphony No. 1 but if you think that's hard try his Symphony No. 2!
I love The Red Violin though and I'm looking forward to hearing Revolution eventually.

All the concertos and symphony of Lalo Schifrin. The flute (very atonal and complex !), violin and tuba concerto of John Williams All the concertos of Ennio Morricone (very experimental compositions) The concert works of Georges Delerue (his operas and works for brass-band) All the works of Kilar : specialy "Angelus" and piano concerto - beautiful writing !

Honestly I don't know what to make of Kilar's piano concerto. It sounds less like him and more like standard ("cliche?") minimalism (the Chorale being the exception). I do like it though...
