I was browsing through some of the concert schedules for the local orchestra's (the New York Philharmonic, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, and the Philadelphia Orchestra), and the NY Philharmonic will be playing a fair amount of Mahler. Thus, the poll question: If you had a chance to hear Mahler's music live, what peice would you choose to see? (It kind of sucks that they aren't playing the 6th, so I didn't include it as an option.)
Btw, has anyone brought (or plan to buy) any classical music tickets for the 2008-2009 season's? This May, Korngold's voilin concerto will be played in NY.... Man, how I would love to hear a live performance of Rozsa's violin concerto. Herrmann's "Souvenirs de voyage, for clarinet and string quartet" is being played in Penn, but damn, my Rozsa searches are yeilding no results!

I'd say the 8th, if only because it's rarely performed (thanks to the large forces required) and it's a tremendously moving experience. I had the honor of being in the chorus several years back and I never forgot it.

Symphony No. 9 would be my second choice, but No. 6 would absolutely be the highest of them all in terms of which one I'd like to hear performed live... thus, I rebel and still choose No. 6!

I've only heard the 1st and that is the one I performed in..IIRC they had to bring in a whole bunch of extra trumpets and horns, great stuff, especially the first and last movement.

No. 6 is my favorite, but of those you posted I definitely go with No. 5.

A friend of mine was in the university chorus in a performance of the Resurrection Symphony. I unfortunately missed the first half! I'd vote for this one to see the entire thing. The half I did see was amazing.
Number 5 would also be great.
