Well, awhile ago I wrote a detailed report about my meeting with Jon and Ami, but I accidentally deleted it. It was filled with details about my restless night of "option" planning, and my unlucky streak (wrong phone number, wrong haircut, and late arrival; I'll never cut get a haircut again) to details about Jon and Ami's "romantic" movie-filled flight and frantic taxi ride to Manhattan....
Anyway, I thought there were a a couple of things I should post. I'm very grateful that Jon and Ami let me spend the day with them in NYC, especially considering the short amount of time they were there. I'm sorry that I got there late, but I couldn't find the Hallmark store in Penn Station (and I thought Hallmark knew no bounds) and I had to make another stop... In the end, I settled for the Carlton cards store.
For me the highlights of the day were .
1. Dinner.
At dinner, Jon and Ami talked about their relationship and how they had meet. It was like the scenes in "When Harry Met Harry Sally" when couples were being interviewed. It was great to hear and see. (Ah, I should have took a picture).
2. The Humming
When we walking down the street and Jon starting humming a Zimmer theme. Jon couldn't remember what score it was from, but to my ears it sounded like a theme I always hum- the Might of Rome theme. To see someone do this was incredible. There was also the mutual humming of the Balto theme, while we were in Battery Park. No, American tail lyrics were sung, nor any pictures taken with the human statue of liberties, but we did get a picture with the real one in the background)
3. The Bus Tour.
This is part of the trip that I'll never forget. At one point, Ave Satani lyrics were blasting through my head... I thought Jon might have liked the accent of the tour lady, Mindy (?),who was doing a horrible "personal" speaking tour. "I'm an aspiring singer... I used to live there... I hate the Yankees... Oh, that's the spot where cool people go... These stores are the most expensive clothing stores in the world... Blah, blah, blah. " At one point she even started to sing, and the over-hyping of the Pepsi-Cola ad was Arggg... Everyone was so happy to finally leave the bus, especially the lady in the photo (see pic). I was tempted to get off a stop earlier and walk, but I didn't want to subject Jon and nd Ami to too much walking.
4. Jon's discovery.
We were thinking about walking through Central Park, but I forgot all about the Metro cards and tea Place, which was located not that far from the "possible" walking route. Anyway, due to Jon's good eyes we ended up in a fantastic cd store. Just browsing though cd's with Jon was incredible. His knowledge of scores and feedback was invaluable. I have to thank Ami for being so patient. We must have been there for a long time because when we left, the sky had complete changed, and it was dark and beautiful.
5. Times Square:
It's still great, even without the prostitutes (which was apparently way before my time)
