Once again Roger Ebert has posted his Best of the Year list, and once again I've seen less than a third of the film's he's listed. Instead, I've seen a lot of junk, from Alien vs. Predator to Garfield to Resident Evil: Apocalypse, and needless to say I'd rather castrate myself with a rusty fork than watch any of them ever again. Hence, putting a Top 10 of truly worthy films together is pretty much an impossibility -- even my Top 5 is pushing it, I think. 1. Sideways2. The Incredibles 3. Shaun of the Dead4. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind5. Kill Bill Vol. 2Which of this year's films did you find worthy?

Well, the release dates for certain films were different here, so my list of 2004 UK films contains some titles which strictly are 2003 efforts... so... 1. The Cooler (a 2003 film which didn't open here til this year) 2. Shrek 2 3. The Incredibles 4. The Mother/The Phantom of the Opera (tie) 5. The Notebook/Stage Beauty (tie) also, quite a number of hot Oscar movies from 2004 haven't played here yet, so I haven't seen Sideways or Million Dollar Baby or Kinsey or The Aviator or Closer or Ray or Team America or Hotel Rwanda. Also, I missed seeing Finding Neverland, Kill Bill II, Vera Drake and Eternal Sunshine in cinemas, so I have no opinion on those. Finding Neverland has a great score though

So The Cooler's pretty popular, eh? I liked it a lot, too (in fact, I think it was on my Top 10 last year).
But am I the only one having a problem with the "supernatural" elements of the film? I mean, are we really to believe that W.H. Macy can significantly affect what should be completely random gambling results? Or is it mere coincidence and the characters simply believe his presence in the casino makes any difference?

The "supernatural" elements of the film didn't bother me; except at the end... where the filmmakers were pushing their own luck a little too far. I think Macy's and Baldwin's performances were so engaging that they made the unbelievable believable. Although I do wonder... how does a man, who is ALWAYS utterly unlucky, get a girlfriend? I mean, seriously, I want to know so I can try it too! pete.

Although I do wonder... how does a man, who is ALWAYS utterly unlucky, get a girlfriend? I mean, seriously, I want to know so I can try it too! Wasn't that, like, one of the main frickin' plot points? Remember, Baldwin ordered her to sleep with him to keep him from leaving. Hence, all you have to do is go to Vegas, loose all your money, convince the owner that you are a guy whose bad luck is contagious and that he should use you to kill high rollers' action. This way you repay your gambling debt, and then threaten to leave. The babe's as good as yours.

I'll keep that within the range of "major releases" ...
1. The Incredibles
2. Shaun Of The Dead
3. High Tension (Haute Tension)
4. Hellboy
5. Spider-Man 2
Honory mentions ... "Harry Potter 3" (I hated the first two films ... but this one was nice), "Collateral" and "Spongebob Squarepants". (Not kidding.)

I'm not stating that Alexander is a great movie or even a good one, but it was certainly better than I was expecting... I couldn't stand Angelina Jolie and het awful acent though...

I'm not stating that Alexander is a great movie or even a good one, but it was certainly better than I was expecting... Two words: Homo. Erotic. I give two thumbs WAY UP! But seriously, it was horrible. I wish they would have played out the Alexander and Heph relationship more like they were buddies who really loved each other, than what they portrayed in this. I realize they were lovers, too, but they were buddies first. Hephaistion seemed like a love struck schoolgirl throughout every scene between them, and I usually like Jared Leto, but his character just annoyed me. He could've been more masculine, he was a bleedin' General, after all. If anything, go see it for Rosario Dawson's tits. Holy shit, those are huge! I'm gonna go do a google search now. Really. They are perfect.

I wanted to shoot my brains out by the end of that horrid film. Not to mention the score was as bad as a bad James Horner knock off I kept thinking about when we would see a nice sex scene with Colin and Angelina... But alas that didn't happen. Perhaps it would have saved the movie from oblivion

They are perfect. You're right about the portrayal of Hephaistion. they should have handled that differently. On the other side I really applaud Stone for not shunning away from the homo erotisism. That was just the custom in those days (in fact most (wealthy) men had relationships with young boys for that matter). Speaking about Mss. Dawsons breast, I think she also had a role in the movie "kids", which I saw many years ago and allthough she was much younger then (and I don't remember her in that movie that well), they weren't as huge as they are now. Dare I say "implants"?
