Well my friend I think it fitting that my 100th post on your site should be used to commend you once again on a fine job. I know alot of work went into this and the sheer volume of stellar quality scores this year has resulted in more time than you wish at the keyboard! But it has been worth it!
All the best!

Great choices, Jon! I just got Un Homme Et Son Chien and it is extraordinarily beautiful! I never would have looked into it if it hadn't been for your review and the recommendations of everyone on the site.
I probably would have put New Moon higher on my list though.

Great, as always. I have been waiting my entire life to read the phrase "epic electronics." ;D However... Michael Jackson, in memoriam? Honestly?

Sure. He wrote original songs for movies.

Can't thank you enough for the hard work. The best part for me is that it forces me to listen to much deeper, elegant music. Drag Me To Hell, to wit, is amazing.
a number of scores weren't so readily available to for 30 sec tasting...... still going through and finding all these unheard scores is terrific way to start the day.

Again, "Animation" isn't a genre, it's a fucking MEDIUM.

Also, who decides the video game nominations and awards? Obviously it's not by anyone who actually plays video games. The fact that Uncharted 2 (one of the best implemented scores in video game history), Shatter, 'Splosion Man, and Halo: ODST weren't even MENTIONED seems like a travesty to me.

I always thought it was more of a large myself.
And, besides, I think it takes a different set of skills to successfully write music for an animated film than it does a live action film. The lack of an identifiable live action presence means that the music has to play a larger role in humanizing the characters, bringing out the emotions that the nature of the medium sometimes doesn't allow, and allowing audiences to connect with the characters more quickly, and without the barrier of 'oh, this is a cartoon'. Wall*E is a perfect example of this. In that sense, the composer for an animated film is often a more important member of the crew than they are on a live-action film. And I want to be able to recognize in my own small, insignificant way, what I feel are the best scores of this type.
So, I'm going to treat it as a fucking GENRE. That OK with everyone?

I nominate the one I like. I havent heard or played Uncharted 2, Shatter or Splosion Man, and I didn't like Halo ODST at all.

What if, in 1977, Star Wars wasn't nominated for an Oscar because everyone said "oh, well I didn't see that film."

Couldn't agree more, if only because Shatter is my favorite VG soundtrack in ages.

Unfortunately, having a day job, a secondary job, a family, and no money sort of hinders that.

Jens and I can play them for you! I have been very consistently finishing exactly one game per week for over a year now.
