I couldn't access the review from your link, but I could access it from your site. That's Odd. Anway, only 1.5 stars. I'm glad I didn't buy it.

I enjoy listening to the cd, though I do admit that it's hardly the ideal way to hear the music of Wagner. Still, the performances are vibrant, even if the sound quality isn't that great, and it's kind of fun as something of a random sampling of Wagner's music.

I consider this to be the weirdest release in quite some time.

Made sense to me. I was reading Bill Thompson's (I think that's his name?) Korngold Discography website and noticed that Magic Fire was released by Varese on LP, and I was thinking I wish they'd reissue this in the club....and the next day....that is exactly what happened.
It probably doesn't appeal to a lot of people but thats why it was released in such small quantities.

I find it even stranger that it was the first to sell out. Even if it did receive the fewest pressings of the latest Varese Club lot, it's still an enigma that the rest of the releases, all of far superior quality, didn't sell out first.

Can't agree, unless you are referring solely to the quality of audio. Its the only club title that interested me and the only one I purchased. Might get NBNW someday, though.

No, I'm referring to the fact that it's a random potpourri of Richard Wagner's music that I'd much rather hear in full operatic form than as these bits and pieces. The fact that Korngold conducted them may be unique, but certainly not all that interesting [to me, at least]. I'd rather be listening to Korngold's own music then Korngold-on-Wagner. I've never been a fan of such composer compliations... particularly when it comes to Wagner, whose music really needs to be experienced in the whopping whole portions he served up. By Love Possessed and North by Northwest were the cream of this Club Release crop. -Jockolantern

It's the 1000 copies. Varese seems to have tried raising the number to 1500 this time, but it seems it's the 1000 that makes them sell. So I expect 1000 and 3000 again next time.

It's the WHOLE point. I don't know why people are stretching to find a reason....there was never any doubt, It's the 50th anniversary of Korngold's death, it only makes sense to reissue their long out of print Korngold LP.

Im kind of disappointed...a lot of opera, but I guess that was a given? I'll probably keep it for completist sake but if it goes up in value I'll have no quarrels with pawning it off.
