This time the 2004 Jerry Goldsmith Gathering in London, unfortunately with Jerry Goldsmith.
I prolonged the Gathering for ten days of vacation and film-music nerdiness at Casa del Broxton at 4 Delf St. (how I miss the place...not so the dog of the neighbours, though!). How nerdy? Jon's collection needed sorting and ordering, which is no small feat considering the 2,200 CDs he calls his own. Took us a couple of days.
I fondly remember a drive-up to the Peak District with Nate U. and Jon, and Nate's question how Germany is different from England. I didn't know a good answer to that! Jon and I drove up the Peak again, climbed over some rocks, and got chilled in a sudden snow-storm ('Snow is accumulating in my left ear!'). Went into the Blue John mine. Watched the Oscars that evening, where I detached with joy at RotK's sweep. Somewhere, there exists a video of my exuberant whooping when Shore won.
What else do I remember? Purchasing foods and stuff at 11pm at Sheffield's ASDA with Jon and Ami. I remember being treated almost every day to one of Ami's sumptous meals, watching Pirates of the Caribbean for the first time (and enjoying it...).
And the Gathering itself, of course. From the arrival at Liverpool Street Station, to the drive through London on a Doppeldecker Bus on a chilly mid-February afternoon, to Tex's bewilderment at England's switchable sockets and "mushy peas", to watching the BAFTAs with lots of Kebap and Peppermint Schnapps (no, I did not sleep with Brendan...I just slept next to him!), to running planlessly around in search for Air Lyndhurst studios, to meeting Southall after he'd been looking for a parking space for three hours (!), to imitating the Beatles at Abbey Road Studios, to Nate's unforgettable line "Thanks, America won't bomb your country now!" at Kings Cross' Burger King, to spending what seemed to be hours on London's Subway, to the fire-alarm at the Alhambra Hotel at 2am...ah, seriously good times!
Anything anybody wants to add or shall we just let that stand here as a memorial to my über-geekiness?
Ta & ta ta,
CK
