As long as this forum is here, I might as well throw out that the Phoenix Symphony is having a short film music concert as a part of their family concert series. It will feature E.T., Close Encounters, the extended Star Wars Main Title suite, Duel of the Fates (choir-less....should be interesting), and a couple movements from Holst's The Planets. The Star Wars portions will include live Storm Troopers and light-saber dueling. The concert is April 2nd at 2:30 in downtown Phoenix, Arizona. I'll be there working and attending the concert if anyone is possibly in that area and wants to stop by. For more info., check this out: www.phoenixsymphony.org/tickets/tickets.php?op=singleI would have advertised this earlier, but it won't be that interesting of a concert since John Williams won't be there or anything...just the basics of his popular stuff. But hey, as long as it's there, right? -Brendan

Should be boring....why remove the part of this piece that defines it?! Probably because it's cheaper. It is cheaper, right? -CG

Should be boring....why remove the part of this piece that defines it?! The simple answer: the choir didn't have time to learn it...and they were too busy practicing for Carmina Burana later this season. And yes, that would have been more expensive from a production set-up standpoint...though the Phoenix Symphony Chorus is a volunteer organization so they wouldn't have had to actually pay the singers. And Hook, most people in the Phoenix metro area are from Minnesota, Chicago or New York/Jersey....so they mostly just talk like I do. -Brendan

It's always the same. If you want quality music you play Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Ravel, Debussy, Prokofiev, or a hundred other composers. If you want the audience though you play fucking Tchaikowsy. Same with film music and Williams.
