Is it official? Do you have a link to an on-line article? However, this might be the reason why... The AMPAS Music Branch rules exclude scores "diluted by the use of tracked or pre-existing music" and/or "diminished in impact by the predominant use of songs,"-Erik-

I don't really have a problem with that. He has got ENOUGH OF THEM! I mean, how many books can you have to lean against them??

While I don't think The Aviator in any way deserves an Oscar nomination, I do think it's unfair that people aren't even allowed to consider it. IF Shore's 15-20 minutes of music had actually been good enough for nomination then that's what he should have got. I know why the rule is there (so there's never another Full Monty situation) but if it's disqualifying scores which don't deserve disqualification then it needs to be rethought.

So they give Shore an award. Nod nod, shake shake. Then afterwards they decide to check the rules *cough*.

Is it official? Do you have a link to an on-line article? I read it it in Dave Poland's daily column. He's very reliable about these things. So, what was the reason again? Is there too little music in the film or something? Or too much source music?

How about: it's simply not good enough. Firstly, that may be reason to not nominate it, but not reason for a disqualification. And secondly, how is The Aviator really any worse than all the other dreck that's previously been nominated for Oscar? Not to mention all the dreck that's actually WON?
