Revell's best score -- one claimed in naother thread here wasn't all written by him (but no one would name names) -- would be his rejected score to "The 13th Warrior".
I'll take Barry, easily, over Arnold anyday.

Hey Jon. First off, I will admit that I haven't listened to _every_ score, so my honesty only runs as far as my ignorance ;-)
re: Revell - I shall listen to those and revise accordingly if I agree :-) Seriously, tho, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers? Do I have to listen to that? ;-)
re: Glass - perhaps I shouldn't have given up on him. It's just the minimalism I have a hard time with.
re: Horner - Don't get me wrong... I love most of his scores. Frankly, I can't imagine why they couldn't get a proper choir for Titanic, but I still like it. Spitfire Grill I have a lot of time for. His big bombastic stuff can often not be beat. I guess i just get most pissed off with hearing the Aliens music in something like Patriot Games - he gets so lazy. I just wish his brilliance would come back. I've not heard anything specifically new from him in 5 years or so.
Re: Barry - I actually have the same problem with him as Horner. The string-lead with brass under seems to be what he falls back on. Black Hole - lovely, one of the first scores I fell in love with witout realising why at the time. But things like Mercury Rising don't do him any favours. Wolves is awesome, though, even if it's just for _that_ theme.
Perhaps I just need to broaden my horizons a bit... Any suggestions? It just needs to be fairly tuneful, even if there are no themes.

"Mercury Rising" -- wasn't that the film Carter Burwell replaced a number of action tracks on?
Suggestions for Horner or Barry? Or both?

eriously, tho, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers? Do I have to listen to that? ;-) Have you ever heard it? If not, don't judge the book by its cover! It's an incredible, fully symphonic, thematic score! Lots of fun! -Erik-

It's okay, certainly better than a lot of Revell, but it's not great or anything (maybe an expanded score could change my mind...I think the highlights of Street Fighter are much better). One or two very good cues, and a lot of generic stuff and temptrackitis (particularly one close rip of Williams's father/son theme from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade).
Still, it's a hell of a lot better score than the movie deserved.

Honestly ... I think I'll be dead before complete, remastered editions of "The Ten Commandments" and "Spartacus" are released, though I have good hopes about "Conan". That was 2007. What a difference five years makes! "Spartacus" -- CHECK. "Conan the Barbarian" -- Coming from Intrada. CHECK. "The Ten Commandments" -- Coming, very likely the final FSM release. CHECK.

The only time I think of Gustavo "Talent Vacuum" Santaolalla, is when reminding, or making a joke about having won twice in a row Academy awards.
I think I'm the only one who, after reading about how "Goldsmith"-like and mature MArk Mothersbaugh's score to "Safe", was completely disappointed and did not enjoy it. It wasn't bad, but honestly -- there's no meat there. I can't even remember the theme.
I'm nowhere near bothered by Thomas Newman getting hired for "Skyfall".
