Does this site actually make money on generic google ads? I can't imagine anyone actually clicks on this crap. The ads are becoming more and more invasive. Banner ads are expanding upon accidental mouse-over covering text I'm trying to read. Really turning me off.

I have no idea. I certainly don't make any money off it. I agree, it's annoying, but I can't turn them off unless I pay ProBoards to remove them.

Thankfully AdBlock Plus on Firefox gets rid of them - however AdBlock on Chrome does not. Hopefully they work on that. And if you're using Internet Explorer, well, then you deserve ads.

Don't think me heartless Hook. I do have a Firefox theme that mimics the 'timeless' look of IE6....but as for the horrible page rendering and gaping security holes, well, some things are best left to the past. -Brendan

You're just blind to the joys IE has brought to this world. See for yourself: www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxOp5mBY9IY#t=2m24sWooooo!!!!! By the way, some versions of Chrome do feature a more advanced and practical way of blocking ads, but they're developer versions. It's as if Google made Chrome not as the non-needlessly bulky web browser for casual, routine, and office use, but as an experiment in various areas of web service. They're proud of the way Chrome gets its updates in smaller and smaller packages without the user even knowing about them (making the update process safer and faster) and, while that's great and all, Chrome still doesn't have an appropriate bookmark manager. You can't export your Chrome bookmarks unless you save them as HTML pages in a separate folder and then have the other browser save those as bookmarks. I know it seems kind of petty, but I haven't had the experience I'm supposed to be having with it. It's not the fastest browser out there. In fact, for me, at least, it loads sites heavy on javascript slower than Firefox and Opera (though I will give it credit for being the best at handling errors: it doesn't bother me with them). The separate process tree is a great idea, but when I'm having problems with one page it asks me to kill 10 unrelated ones that have remained static for hours. Not to mention that if it crashes, restoring my tabs is a pain in the butt. Chrome either tells me what tabs closed inappropriately and I can load them or doesn't, no reason given. And the worst of the bunch, Google Chrome has way too many problems with this video service called YouTube. That's right. Google's own property ruins itself. I will give it one thing, though: it's extremely lightweight. Whew, I needed to get that out of my system. Carry on. I have no idea. I certainly don't make any money off it. I agree, it's annoying, but I can't turn them off unless I pay ProBoards to remove them. How much would that be? If we chipped in, deal's done. You don't make any money from the ads, at all? Is that ProBoards policy? Hmm... Is the MMUK store at Amazon doing ok?

No, I don't make a penny off the ads. I have absolutely no control over them; I guess any click-thru revenue from them goes straight to ProBoards, which enables them to host the board for free.
As for the MMUK Store... I've made a grand total of $94.95 since I started it, and will get my first ever check as soon as I hit $100. I guess that's pretty good. The most expensive thing anyone has ever bought through it is the Complete Only Fools and Horses Collection on DVD, which cost $116.49, and for which I received the princely sum of $6.99!

You can bet that Proboards is making money from the ads though!

It is quite expensive for Proboards to host 100+servers.

That's what all they say - "But the hosting cost is so high!" while they pocket a god portion of the ad money
