Utterly unfaithful to the source material. Where's the electromagnetic field? Where's the time travel? Where's Ozzie Osbourne?
Epic fail.

Not knowing anything about the source material (I'm a DC guy, I've read very few Marvel comics), I enjoyed the movie. Certainly better than many of these superhero blockbusters we've seen over the past few years.

I saw the movie last night. I enjoyed it, but not so much that I would buy it on DVD (placing it below the Spiderman films excluding 3, Batman Begins, Superman, X-Men films excluding 3, etc.) It didn't have as much depth as I expected considering the early scenes and several reviews I read beforehand. Downey and Paltrow were good though. The absolute worst thing about the film was the score, which just annoyed me. There was absolutely no memorable musical idea; it was trashy even for Media Ventures/Remote Control. It didn't support the film at all, didn't enhance any single moment, and in fact dragged down quite a few with its head-banging electric guitars (makes Kull the Conqueror look subtle and layered). Pretty much anyone could've done a better job.

On a more serious note, I found this movie to be a big, steaming pile of adequacy.
Everything about it is decent, but none of it is great or even particularly memorable. I already feel like I've forgotten most of it.

Saw it. Liked it, but I agree that, other than Robert Downey Jr. being great and everything, it was mostly adequate, stemming, perhaps, from invoking every major plot twist for the genre in its present form (ethno-buddy gets killed after saving hero, CHECK; bad guy wasn't really killed but has a nasty bruise and a chip on his shoulder, CHECK; the good guy was the bad guy all along, CHECK; goody two-shoe friends, CHECK; bad boy gets a change of heart--the Tom Cruise factor, CHECK). I've seen some comparisons being made by critics between this and last summer's Transformers. I may be the wrong fanboy to be asked an opinion from on this, but I think Transformers was far more visually appealing and interesting than Iron Man. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't get to the point of Fantastic Four's shockingly stale "climax" in which you got your main characters in a circle, fighting in front of an audience, with each shot (all 4 of them) permanently fixed in one camera angle (preferably the wide angle, so you can see where each character is); but some of it reminded me of that (for example, near the end, where Gwyneth stands in her spot for nearly ten minutes while the guys in robo-suits pave the way for mayhem without her even blinking an eye to change her expression once Tony calls for her again). Also, what's with these films having the same color scheme as the labs in CSI: Las Vegas? And splitting the first scenes in the timeline seemed unnecessary, it didn't really add anything to the film. And two more, nitpicks, really: The music is utter trash, as was expected, but I never intended to make the connection between Iron Man's main theme and that of (don't laugh, because I'm not trying to be funny) Shaquille Oneal's character in Steel. I saw that a couple of weeks ago for a laugh (big mistake, I didn't) and the theme became stuck in my head. They're really similar in all their cheesy/corny glory. And why couldn't they get the rights for the actual Black Sabbath song? I liked it. In general, if you like Robert Downey Jr. and cool robot suits, you're bound to like Iron Man. One big complaint: Must Samuel L. Jackson be in every single movie ever made? I thought it was cute how he took it upon himself to tase Anakin at will in Jumper, but really, S.H.I.E.L.D.? Really?

Add to that how telegraphed it was that he'd need his old "heart" back again. I saw that coming as soon as he told her to trash it. Yavar Yavar

Bah. It's my favorite Superhero movie since Spiderman 2, although I wouldn't say it had anywhere near the depth or heart. Still, I laughed, a cheered, and I enjoyed myself for pretty much all of it.
If only they had an actual, interesting villain, the movie would have been exceptional.

Ironically I was listening to the soundclips of these scores on itunes yesterday, but downloaded a bunch of moviescore media tracks with Roar instead. Are there any standout tracks I should try from Michelmore's four Marvel scores? I usually just go by what track has the highest user rating on itunes. -Nate

Frankly, I wanted RD Jr. to come out and say "You're being very undude, Dude", but alas. "This aggression will not stand, man"
