Sounds awesome. Figures that I would live on the other side of the country.

Hamonielehre, followed by Harmonium (which is Harmolehre amped up a few notches, including a choir). Naive And Sentimental Music is pretty good too.
Personally, I adore Adams. Fantastic musical style. He's not big on theme, but it's all about rhythm and harmony. It's entrancing, pulsating, mesmerizing music. Boring to some, but incredibly addictive for others (like me :-) ).

Me personally, I would avoid the 3:33 album, or any album with that track on there...
And as far as Sam, I'm rather fond of his Summer Ale, mainly because it doesn't have his godawful aftertaste.

have you tried his Hefeweisen? Never. Might have to find some now. I'd always thought it was one of his high alcohol beers I can't get around here (I'd love to try his Double Bock...).

Just got his 2CD "My Father Knew Charles Ives//The Dharma at Big Sur" which i'm quite enjoying. It's typical Adams with a hint of melody... more than usual.

John Adams is conducting some new stuff with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in March... I may try to go. Anyone else in the ATL area interested?
Back at ya later

My favourite John Adams piece is "The wound dresser", a extraordinary book of songs written for baritone and small orchestra based on the words by Walt Whitman : The orchestration is delicate, modest and avoid any pathos... it's really beautiful just like the impressionistic songs of Benjamin Britten (see my avatar )... You could hear very large extracts on the BBC radio archives : The wound dresser
