My dates are set! We will arrive in Germany on September 10th and be traveling around Europe until October 15th. Countries include Spain (Barcelona), France (Paris and the North coast), Italy (everywhere), Austria (Vienna and Esterhazy Palace), Germany (Frankfurt, Berlin and more) and Belgium (for waffles). We'll be adding more destinations as we plan further, but if people have good suggestions or want to meet up, let me know (or you may be hearing from me...Jorge, Olivier...get ready! ). Also, if there are any good film music events going on during that time, I'd love to know about it. -Brendan

All righty. Hope you´ll enjoy this city. Keep in touch as the dates get closer (and remember we´ll be out on Sep the 25th, 26th, 27th and 28th).
Take care

If you're staying in Paris, I'd suggest Le Meridien Etoile. It was a really nice hotel, not far from the Champs Elysees. We paid about $95 a night (booked in advance), and it was well worth it.

Hungary didn't make the cut on our list this time around. Here is the current route map:

Well, this is it people. I'm out of here as of tomorrow for 5 weeks. I may catch a couple of you along the way, or if you're bored because of no new posts or arguments to read here, you can laugh at the silly americans trying to navigate their way through Europe on my travel blog. See you all later, and thanks again for the advice from this thread! -Brendan

So...you don´t come to Barcelona? Your loss.... :b Well, Italy sure is more than worthwhile. Don´t know Germany, nor Paris (though I´ve heard that Paris is worth a mass).
Well, if your plans change, keep in touch. (Though I´ll be pretty busy on the last week of September and the first of October. Maybe even in Portugal in October...Oh, well)

I would like to congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Anderson for being the first American tourists to not dress like clueless stoners on a hippie commute.

I would like to congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Anderson for being the first American tourists to not dress like clueless stoners on a hippie commute. Thanks Hook, we're trying hard. Although I have to say I've seen lots of Germans wearing ALL the things I was told to avoid wearing - light jeans, white socks, funny baseball hats...sometimes all at once. And Jorge, I'm sorry Barcelona didn't work out for us this time, but Vienna and Eisenstadt became necessary for work reasons (and to provide me a hefty tax write-off in the process). Next time, I promise!! -Brendan, leeching off of some clueless person's wireless in Venice

So I'm back from the trip....it was amazing. Thanks everyone for the advice and help! We did use a car the whole time - for the record, driving in Florence, Italy was the craziest. Rome, Paris, Vienna....not so bad really. I was expecting much much worse...then again, I've driven in L.A. The musical highlight was catching a Verdi opera at the Vienna State Opera House last-minute for 10 Euro. Now that's a deal. The highlight of the entire trip was jumping off a cliff on a paraglider in the Swiss Alps. I made a video blog of it if you want to see it. The activity is highly recommended and, from what I could tell, very safe...I'm still alive anyway. -Brendan

I just watched the cliff-jumping. Crazy. Who video'd all that?

I just watched the cliff-jumping. Crazy. Who video'd all that? I did. It was taken using my Canon Powershot in video mode. However, the two scenes of close-ups of myself and my wife flying with our pilots were taken by the pilots themselves who had small digital cameras on the end of long poles they would hold out and film with (so they could charge us extra for the footage later...but totally worth it). If you look at the close up of me flying, you'll see he actually let me 'drive' the paraglider for a bit. I think I found my new favorite mode of transportation. ;D

It sounds like you had a great experience. So where's The Sequel Trip happening?
