What if Loran Alan Davis wrote every movie score ever made. Then you would be homeless.

Then you would be homeless. yes, but only because all other composers had to write scores for games and tv. I did think of that.... I just don't feel like being logical right now.

would david arnold have ever become so popular without dodd backup? Are you suggesting Dodd is a big part of the Arnold sound?

[Dodd] is at least 50 percent of what makes arnolds scores so great. Eh, I disagree. I guess it depends on what you like about Arnold's scores. Frankly, the solo projects I've heard from Dodd, while certainly big and romantic in their orchestration and scope, just don't have much of a soul and therefore end up leaving me pretty empty. It becomes bombast without purpose - there is no emotional or thematic hook. David Arnold's music is great when it's big and thickly orchestrated, sure, but that's only part of it - he's also great because of his dramatic sensibilities and knowing exactly what a scene needs as well as his knack for writing a great tune to accomplish the job. The perfect example is a birthday cake: Dodd is like the frosting - I LOVE frosting, but at the same time I can't just sit down and eat a can of frosting because it wouldn't taste as good that way. Frosting is only truly great when it sits on top of a perfectly layered, rich chocolate/vanilla/creame-filled cake. Arnold is the cake. Now, I realize some people are perfectly content eating a whole can of frosting by itself, but as for me - let me eat cake! -Brendan p.s. my gosh, this post sounds frighteningly like a lecture I once received from Ron Jones... "You've got to create the cow!" p.p.s. sorry for the inside joke

would be intersting to hear a david arnold track without dodd orchestration-oh we already have one-Joel McNeelys take on The Day we fight back....EPIC FAIL! :-) i wouldn´t say everything dodd wrote himself was soulless, while treasure island surly was renesaince was a great score.it depends on the projct.treasure island is a much fun as your epic movie, disaster movie.horrible unfunny.

Got my "Emporer of the North" score from Intrada today and listened to most of it. Good score from the late Frank DeVol.
It occured to me that he could have scored films like:
"Dirty Harry "Planet of the Apes" and another one I can't recall the name of.

Agreed. His ear for those good melodic hooks is great. And now you've given me a craving for cake.
