When I went and visited my Dad last fall I did go into this Cheapos place, the one on Lake St. in Minneapolis. I found the Marco Polo Historical Romances CD there for $4.00. I didn't see too much else interesting and I agree in the assessment that the prices were a bit high. Tom

Have you listened to the Advent Rising score? Is it any good? Yes and yes. I bought it last summer and really like it. It has more than one memorable theme and hardcore action music (think Zimmer with a real orchestra!). It is really exciting music. The CD actually starts off rather softly introducing some of the main themes before it opens up into action music heaven (a lot of choir) from about track 3 to track 11 (there is a pop song mixed in there as well). It slows down towards the end, but there is so much good stuff in the first half of the album you won't really care. Long story short it has movie trailer/Hans Zimmery like action music and great softer more controlled parts that sound like they could fit into any movie. I think it sounds like a little Danny Elfman mixed in at times too. There are sample tracks on Tallarico's website (I think they are lengthier than the clips on Amazon): www.tallarico.com/index.php?s=listenThe "Bounty Hunter" track is a minor taste of some of the action music found on the CD. The first three sample clips are in the same order as on the CD. I also like the samples from his Evil Dead score. -nate side note: Mike P, are you the one from the filmtracks messageboard that bought Jeff Danna's Kung Fu: The Legend Continues and gave it four out of five stars? If so Advent Rising would be your kind of music. ;D

If I tried it I would probably get lost. I usually go every two months to Cheapo on Snelling Street in St. Paul and sometimes they have all crap and sometimes I get good stuff (I would say they have at least 1000 used soundtracks at this one). I found A World Apart, Power of One, The Shadow, Poledouris' Jungle Book, Indochine, The Russian House, etc., etc. which are all good. But, I've also come away with crap like Year Of Living Dangerously, Howard's End, Nightbreed (sorry Elfman fans), etc., etc. -nate

We don't have such a thing around here, which is a shame. I'd probably buy a lot of stuff or $1-$4.

Yeah, I'm the guy who reviewed Kung Fu favorably. It's nice to see your obsession with that score hasn't waned much.
The clips to Advent Rising sound pretty good. Perhaps it's just the tracks he posted, but it sounds like a very somber, tragic album... which is my kind of album.
It's in my cart, but will have to wait until the 21st when the Lost soundtrack is released.

Yeah, I'm the guy who reviewed Kung Fu favorably. It's nice to see your obsession with that score hasn't waned much. I would probably listen to it everyday if I had it on CD, but with my cassette I only listen to it about every month. Awesome themes on it that is for sure! Well, I haven't played the game but going by the track titles I would say the game is pretty tragic. The music really isn't sad or happy, but I would say it does lean towards tragic sounding. Plus, the main theme found throughout the album sounds like James Horner's love theme from Braveheart (and Bicentenninal Man & Glory & all the other movies he's used it in ) mated with Hans Zimmer's "Journey to the Line." It's pretty good. Oh, and a Sam Goody is closing near where I live so I picked up La La Land's Hitman 1 & Hitman 2 double CD for $12 and Jade Empire soundtrack for about $11. So now I've compared the Hitman 2 promo with the regular release. And in case anyone cares I finally got the right track times for the Hitman 2: Silent Assassin Promo: 1) Hitman 2 Main Title 2) Waiting For Action 3) Action Begins 4) 47 in St. Petersburg 5) Trouble in Russia 6) Japanese Mansion (expanded about 6 seconds from the La La Land release) 7) Japanese Snow Castle 8) Desert Sun (expanded about 3 seconds) 9) Arabian Dance 10) 47 Makes a Decision 11) The Penthouse 12) Streets of India 13) Mission in India 14) The Setup 15) End Boss I say those two tracks are expanded because the theme doesn't start until ten seconds into Japanese Mansion on the promo, but on the La La Land release the theme starts at about 4 seconds into the track. Same with the Desert Sun track. -nate
